Parkinson's Self-Help

About this ebook
Parkinson’s Self-Help is a free book inspired by Peter’s eight year Parkinson Journey from diagnosis in 2010 to his crippling symptoms which progressed rapidly while we had no understanding of the disease to restoration of a normal active life. His limbs and organs were all adversely affected and functioned erratically by winter 2014. With dopamine medication and specialist’s help Peter was motivated to regain independence by exercising and walking daily. Within a year his appetite, weight, strength, energy, flexibility and a kilometre twice daily walking habit were restored.
We describe how Parkinson’s progresses and how with logical, free, self-help remedies Peter took control of them. When the brain is depleted of the dopamine neurotransmitters, its signals to limbs and organs become erratic and bradykinesia, rigidity, tremours and dyskinesia develop. Peter’s messaging pathways in his weakened body were increasingly faulty until dopamine supplements, healthy routines, walking and exercises stimulated his 82 year old brain and Central Nervous System to repair his damaged messaging networks.
From weak, fragile health in 2014, he has triumphed to enjoy a normal healthy active lifestyle for three years. We address all symptoms in this book and describe remedies which restored Peter’s health; his weakened body, his asthma, mucous filled lungs, double vision, and all other Parkinson symptoms.

Hello all. As a guide to other Parkinson sufferers our book gives information we could not easily find in 2014 for Self Help as Parkinsons took over my husband Peter’s body and mind. As octogenarians Peter and I now look back on managing his eight year Parkinson Journey as a rewarding challenge faced every day. Daily routines have been essential to successfully convert his debilitating crippling symptoms which led to an inflexible body and ‘all day sleepiness’ back to his previous active lifestyle. Peter’s day begins at 6.30a.m. with his dopamine medications and a kiwifruit taken with three meals six hourly by day, followed by his two shortened sleep times. For the rest of the day his brain and body are stimulated with a variety of planned activities; his twice daily walks, exercise routines, car trips, social times, etc. As Peter feels no thirst, dehydration has to be monitored by day to prevent balance problems, night time wheezing, and mental confusion. We have found fluid intakes every two hours by day have prevented dehydration and Parkinson problems impacting on all his organs and becoming serious health issues. Peter, now 85 years old, has regained total independence and controls all his Parkinson symptoms with healthy daily routines, and together every day we enjoy a quality active lifestyle. However, controlling his Parkinsons and finding new remedies will continue to be a work in progress.

Observers of Peter’s achievements to overcome his crippling Parkinson symptoms have asked me to write this book. Its purpose is to advise others of our remedies which have restored his independence, energy and health to enable a normal physically active life for the past four years. Our frustration that no satisfactory self help advice to prevent progression of his disease was freely available led to the realisation a book full of helpful Parkinson information should be written. My diary recorded Peter’s Eight Year Parkinson Journey and included the medical knowledge acquired which inspired our free self help remedies. This information is freely given with the hope that it will minimise suffering for many other Parkinson patients.

Prologue
Around midnight in November 2017, Peter crept out quietly in his pyjamas and walked barefoot through the village, down the road past the shops and stopped halfway up the hill towards the town.
He instinctively attempted to wave down an approaching car for a ride home. Perhaps this action and the lights in his face woke him up. He was shocked to find himself standing on the roadside over a kilometre from home. He suddenly felt fatigued and cold, and his bare feet were very sore. His conscious brain then took control and turned him around to walk back down the road, past the traffic lights and shops, to the garage where he asked for a ride home.
When his request was refused this very cold, tired 84 year old Parkinson man just stood there in his pyjamas, bewildered as he pondered his sore feet which did not want to walk another kilometre to home. Then a police car arrived. Peter gave them his details and the code to open the village gates and he was soon home. After a hot cocoa he slept in his warm bed for an hour. He then woke with breathlessness. He hadn’t used an inhaler for two years but after two puffs his breathlessness was cured and Peter slept well until morning.
