Neil's Story: Trial by Media
()
About this ebook
The Neil Entwistle murder case caused a media frenzy on both sides of the Atlantic. With his wife and baby daughter found dead in their bedroom, Neil was the immediate suspect, and his subsequent conviction seemed inevitable to all who heard and read the sordid coverage. However, things are not always what they seem.
With remarkable objectivity, Cliff Entwistle reveals the inconsistencies in the investigation, the lies told and the key forensic evidence withheld from the medical examiner, and with touchingly personal candour, he shares the pain he felt at the great loss and betrayal his family suffered.
You will be disturbed by the harrowing details he exposes of the justice systems of both the UK and the US, yet you cannot fail to be encouraged as he testifies to the strength and resilience of family bonds in the face of unimaginable heartache and adversity.

Introduction
In 2006, my daughter-in-law, Rachel, and my only granddaughter, Lillian Rose, were found dead in their home in Massachusetts. In 2008, my eldest son, Neil, was wrongly convicted of murdering his family. I will outline in this book the key points that show that Neil is innocent. I will show that evidence not only leaves reasonable doubt, as the law requires, but that it actually points to Rachel as the one who fired the gun. I will show that Neil was subjected to a farcical trial fuelled by an incomplete investigation and a highly prejudicial media.
Throughout this case, the authorities were found to have withheld evidence that would have given a precise picture of what happened at the crime scene. For example, it was revealed in trial that forensic evidence was withheld from the medical examiner who did the autopsy by the prosecutors. This evidence would have been instrumental in proving that Rachel was, in fact, the person who fired the gun. The very gunshot residue particles they were desperate to find on Neil or anything he had touched, all to no avail, were found on Rachel, as she was found to have gun-shot residue on both hands front and back. These details were quickly hidden, even from the media. Why?
On the stand during trial, forensic chemists and experienced homicide detectives said that, while at the crime scene following the discovery of Rachel and Lillian’s bodies, they did not know how Rachel and Lillian had died. They said this despite the bloodied garments worn by Lillian, garments that were displayed for extended periods during the trial to ensure full emotional effect. Despite their claimed ignorance, they chose to perform no test to determine cause of death, nor did they invite the medical examiner’s office to the crime scene. Why? What was being hidden?
When questioned during the trial, a forensic chemist first confirmed that she should indeed enter a crime scene with an open mind and an objective mind-set, yet she reluctantly confirmed that, on leaving the police station, and before entering the house and the crime scene for the first time, she
