    ( Vol. II of V )

    Disclaimer

The events recounted herein are similar to events the author experienced in his younger days living in Los Angeles. He just barely survived some of them. All the persons and their names are fictitious and do not represent real people. Free images were used throughout the book. If anyone closely resembles someone who doesn’t like it in the book, the author can be reached at his email address at the bottom. But, all closely similar events took place in his youth. The author has cruised Whittier Blvd. numerous times when he lived in L.A. in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

The author does not promote any ideas of lawbreaking, even though some are described. There is no intent to demean any person or group of people however described. Hopefully his broken-Spanish comes across ok. He did consult the online Spanish dictionary to get most of them right. Although the author is an older gent now, he did his best to recount thoughts and moves made as a younger man living in L.A. in his early 20’s. This book is offered not as factual but as an interesting story for educational purposes only.

Chap. 1  The ‘Scrying Ball’ and the Smoke

It was Friday, on the south side of Los Angeles, on the edge of the Mexican barrio district. After work, Louis phoned Ramona, his 17 year old girlfriend, who was still in high school. Louis was 21 years old.

Girl, is she gonna do it? he inquired of his girlfriend. I don’t know Ramona returned, she said he’s kinda cute but, she still feels something for Enrico; she can’t make up her mind.

Well hell, she can’t have 2 guys at the same time, so, what’s she gonna do? asked Louis. I need to tell Rico something. (Louis and Ramona were trying to get her girlfriend, Roberta, to go out with Louis’ friend, Ricardo, for the weekend, they would double date in Louis lowered ‘47 chevy fastback).

She told me she was going to consult her grandmother for the answer, she’s supposed to be a Psychic.

She’s gonna take a Psychic’s word on which guy she should date? inquired Louis. I guess so, replied Ramona. Jeez, I hope you don’t start using a psychic in our love affair Luis threw at her. Ramona laughed that uninhibited laugh only 17 year old girls have. Hah, hah, ha, oh Louis, don’t be silly, she retorted.

Switching subjects, he asked her: When are we supposed to pick up the Ganja from Enrico? He said to call him tomorrow, Saturday afternoon, about 1 pm, he would have it then. The whole 1/2 a pound? Louis questioned her. I don’t know, I guess so she replied, quien sabe?[Who knows?]

Did he say how many pesos it would cost? No, I just presumed it would be a fair price. The one we got from him last month was how much? she asked him. $250 for a 1/2 pound, Louis replied. We’ll just have to wait and see tomorrow she added, manana.

Roberta phoned her grandmere, Ms. Catalina, to ask what time she could come visit her. Either ‘antes de or depues de comida’ [either before or after dinner] grandmere answered. Ok, I’ll come by at ‘Siete’ [7 pm] Roberta replied. ‘Bueno’ Grandmere concluded.

    ‘Scrying’ The Smoke:

The clock showed 7:07 pm when Roberta pulled into her grandmere’s driveway and parked. Knocking on the door brought a feeble reply. Come on in mi chiquita. Roberta entered her grandmere’s old house and gave her a gentle hug. Her grandmere was 80 years old and getting quite frail.

And to what do I owe this sudden visit? Ms. Catalina inquired of her grandaughter. Oh grandmere, I have a problem and so hoped with your Psychic power you could advise me which answer was the best one Roberta pleaded. I will do my best to help you mi chiquita, as I’ve always done.

    Que es la problema?

I think I’m in love with Enrico, but a new guy, cuter, wants to date me, his name is Ricardo. I don’t know which one I should date and which one I should say no to. Can you use your ‘Art of Scrying’ to help me?

    Gypsy with Ball

Sitting at her kitchen table, Ms. Catalina, gently removed the purple scarf off her glass globe, her ‘Scrying globe’.

As I have often told you when you were a young girl Roberta, the Spirit in the Globe does not always answer right away, and/or does not always give the answer the questioner wants, you remember?

Yes, dear grandmere, I remember you telling me that before.

Then, you will allow grandmere to warm up first, after which she speaks to the ‘Spirit Force in the Globe’ to make friendlies first before we proceed. Yes, of course, my dear grandmere.

Thereupon Grandmere leaned back in her recliner chair, adopted a smile on her face, started a small chant, regulated her breathing rhythm and relaxed so much as to rid her mind of worldly cares and slide into a trance-like state of mind, totally disassociated with the day’s trivials and to clear it, to better receive an image from the Spirit World.

After several minutes passed, she opened her eyes half way, smiled again and stated:

Oh Great Spirit in the sky, we come before you once again as mere mortals sometimes lost in our paths seeking the infinite inspiration and guidance from the supreme being above all else.

Then she adjusted her recliner chair into a more upright position and placed both her hands upon the globe and began.

    ––––––––

    Psychic hands

The one named Roberta comes before us and seeks wisdom to her question, which is: and she nodded at Roberta to state her question. "Can the great spirit tell me which young man would be best for my future, either Enrico or Ricardo? She asked.

Grandmere did not say a word. She hummed a light Gypsy tune to herself as she continued lightly rubbing her hands across and around the globe. For a full minute nothing showed. Then, grandmere spoke. There is some smoke in the globe, that is a good sign. She continued lightly massaging the globe.

Suddenly she spoke. It’s hazy, I can barely make out the image of a young man with close cropped hair, maybe 20 years old-That’s Enrico! blurted Roberta,

Shush! Do not interrupt chiquita! admonished grandmere. I see his car stopped and a black car behind his with flashing lights, perhaps a police car, then it faded, too bad, we only got that much.

Let’s try again she said. She removed her hands from the globe, shook them down alongside her dress as if to shake off any vibes from the first Scrying, and replaced them on the
