23694 Days of June - Chloe Elson
365 Days
I chanced upon Death,
On a cool, summer's night.
I was feeling daring, forthcoming,
With him in my sight –
So asked him, whether he
Thought it was okay
To take a much loved
Soul away
from their family.
He laughed,
and explained
To me candidly.
"My dear child, it is their time.
To deny an end would be crime."
I was astounded, as he
Continued his stroll.
That he was willing to make
Orphans, widows, childless parents-
All for the sake of his twisted morals.
I asked him why he took
my Nana,
Knowing she did not
want to go.
"The only time,
when they'll know,
Is when it ends.
Only then,
They shall meet
The maker of men."
His tone made me quiver in my shoes,
Dark and sombre, as if to excuse
His reclamation of her soul.
So, I demanded he return
what he once stole.
"You are such a fool."
He laughed.
"I could never return her soul-
She ran off.
I have no control
Of where she is now.
I presume she's with
Her husband,
and has been
evading me
ever since!"
With that, he was gone,
the grass rustled around
Whilst cricket chirps filled
The air.
I chuckled, knowing
A year later,
A whole 12 months,
365 days.
They were still pulling the
Wool over
Death’s eyes.
Life vs Love
On a rare moment,
Love and life met.
It was not pleasant.
Love accused life,
Of stealing all her thunder.
"How can anybody love,
When they are so caught up in life?"
Love's jealousy had no effect
