    Chapter 1 - What is the 8:16 Intermittent Fasting Diet?

    Anyone can follow the 8:16 intermittent fasting diet. If done properly, those who tried it out can achieve amazin results not only in their physique, but also in their overall health and fitness.

    The 8:16 IF diet is fundamentally a diet protocol where you have breakfast later than usual and eat dinner in the early evening. This eating schedule promotes losing excess body fat and better control over blood sugar levels.

    The 8:16 term refers to eating within an 8-hour period and fasting for the rest of the 16 hours in a day. All the calories you need in a day will be consumed within this short eating period.

    The IF diet is actually more of a lifestyle rather than a diet. The idea is that fasting periods will encourage the body to use fats for energy. This is shifting the body’s energy source from the calories from immediate food intake to stored fats.

    Basic 8:16 protocol

    The thing is that you will sleep off about 4 to 8 hours of the 16-hour fasting period. You can spend the remaining hours focusing on other activities, like your work, hobby and workout.

    You generally start fasting after your early dinner. Typically, you will be spending around 3 hours or so doing your pre-bed activities, like catching up on work, wrapping up your day with some leisure activities (e.g., reading, surfing the net, watching TV, doing some light household chores, preparing next day’s presentations or stuff you need, cleaning up, tidying up, etc.) or doing some light workout.

    In this diet, you will be eating breakfast later in the day. Instead of eating breakfast between 6AM and 8AM, you can eat around 11AM.

    Think of it this way, you get to have more time in the morning to get more things done. You won’t be rushing in the morning to prepare breakfast. You free up some time to do other things like going through your materials to check everything is ready for your day’s lineup of activities. You can finally get that morning run you wanted to do for the longest time. You may even squeeze in a few moments of yoga or other light workout to start your day.

    What IF does in the body

    When you fast, you trigger some amazing processes in the body that are otherwise inactive or not happening at full force. For example, during fasting periods, apophagy is accelerated. This refers to a process, which involves eating dead and old, worn out cells. This process is important because it is the body’s way of cleaning out dead, old, damaged and useless cells. These are brought out from within the tissues and excreted. This process works in clearing out the tissues of potentially harmful buildup of non-functional cells, along with toxins.
