SPOILERS FOLLOW: READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION:****My rating of this book probably suffers from the fact that I've read a couple of Richard Paul Evans books just before this and their themes seem to be similar. Man and woman meet and fall in love, but the woman is already engaged and chooses her fiance over her true love, and eventually there's a reconciliation.I was disappointed that Tru and Hope slept together repeatedly after knowing each other only for a few days. I was disappointed that Hope drove off on schedule on Sunday and it took 10+ years for her to return to her "true love"--and then after she does find him, she's ready to let him go because she'd been diagnosed with ALS and doesn't think it's fair to him--without even asking him what he thinks!!

Tru was vacationing in North Carolina from Africa to meet his "father" for the first time and Hope was staying at her parents summer home when they first met. After spending much time together they parted their ways and their life went on for over 20 years. This certainly was a great read and a read with heartache, happiness, patience, and love.

In ‘Every Breath’, the most recent contribution by renowned, romance author Nicholas Sparks, the author once again generates the romantic, emotionally heart-wrenching story for which he is so adept. Hope Anderson, visits her family’s beach cottage in North Carolina to contemplate her 6-year relationship with Josh, which seems to be going nowhere. While vacationing, Hope meets Dru Walls, a handsome African safari guide, who has flown to the United States to meet his estranged father for the first time. What ensues is a spectacularly orchestrated and very romantic weekend of a lifetime, as one has come to expect with Nicholas Sparks’ novels. And while the aftermath is quite touching and sad, all is quite predictable, but nevertheless, intriguing and captivating. I was enthralled the whole way, and for a quick, romantic beach read, this story will present a nice diversion from summer boredom.

Nicholas Sparks knows how to pull on the heart-strings and "Every Breath" was up there with his best. I have been disappointed with a couple of his more recent works, but this one was classic Sparks."Every Breath" was a poignant, moving novel about two people who fall in love at the wrong time. I adored Part 1 - the ocean setting, the beach house, Tru and Hope, Scottie, Hope's rambunctious little dog, and the mailbox - and I had the book sitting on 5 stars. However, the second part was a bit slow in places and I wish the time frame for when Tu and Hope finally met again was shorter. However, I loved the ending and the descriptions of Africa, having falling in love with this mystical continent myself. I also like how Nicholas Sparks included himself as the narrator in the prologue and epilogue. It was a nice touch."Every Breath" was a sweet, tender read that focused on love and loss, family and duty, heartbreak and hope, sacrifice and endurance.

This was a very interesting premise for a story. It opens with an introduction by Nicholas Sparks sharing how this story came about. I was very interested in the idea of the community mailbox, Kindred Spirit, found on a stretch of North Carolina Beach. This mailbox was a place to share the hopes and dreams entrusted by past visitors, along with this resounding message: love endures. When the author stumbles upon an envelope full of drawings, letters, and a partial manuscript, he decides to try and find the author to see if he can write his story. It was their journey that provided the inspiration for this story-within-a-story and the author’s mighty return to his roots—the telling of a love so intense, it’s felt with the reader’s every breath and turn of the page. And so it begins, with fate placing Tru and Hope on the same stretch of beach.

Tru never met his father, so when he receives a plane ticket and letter to travel to the US. to meet him, he decides that is the only way he will learn more about his mother who died when he was only eleven. From the “the bush” in Zimbabwe to the coast of North Carolina, he travels and finds love as well as meeting his father and finding out a truth that changed his view of his family. When he meets Hope while rescuing her terrier, it is fate and they realize they are soulmates. The furthest thing from Hope's mind is meeting a man like Tru. The next few days find them spending as much time as possible together including a trip to Kindred Spirit. As time moves on, Hope and Tru are forced to make hard and fast decisions. What are they willing to sacrifice for the type of love experienced only once in a lifetime?

The end of the book has an author's note explaining that Kindred Spirit is real and that he did venture to this "Mailbox" but the story is fiction. I enjoyed this book like I have all of Nicholas Sparks books. I listened to this one and the intro was actually narrated by Nicholas Sparks which gave it a real feeling. I would recommend this book to any lovers of Sparks and if you get the chance to listen to it, I suggest you give it a try.

I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, and was excited when I got an early copy of his new release. I really enjoyed the introduction to this story from the author and where he got his inspiration for this book. I think I enjoyed this even more knowing a little about the back story and that it really based off true events.I do feel it was different than his other work. It was not my favorite book I have read from the author, but it was still great. I loved the story between True and Hope. I liked learning about how they met, their life when they were apart, and especially when they come back together. I think the mailbox at Kindred Spirit sounds amazing and a place I would love to visit one day. This was emotional at times when talking about the parents of both True and Hope. I was waiting for the signature heart-wrenching moment that is in all of Nicholas Sparks books. Although this was very sad at times, it just never hit that level that most of his books have in the past. I know some people hate those, but I personally love that about his stories. I was a little let down when it came to that. Do not get me wrong, there were still several times your heart will break as you learn more about their story. Overall, this was an amazing and crazy love story. I would never have guessed that this was a real story without knowing it from the beginning. I really enjoyed it.

Every breath by Nicholas SparksStory starts with how the book came about by the author. Book starts with a man in Africa and his life there as a guide into the bush, as his family has done for years. He's heading to the US, everything is set...he's to meet his bio dad. He says goodbye to his son and ex wife before heading to the airport. Drew's father, who's dying, was to arrive in a few days...He wanders the beach and rescues a woman's dog, Hope who recdeived Scotty from her boyrfriend of 6 years. We learn about Hope who summered at Sunset Beach and the cottage is now being sold-she's a nurse at the trauma center-Josh is a doctor. She's really there for a friends wedding.Alternating chapters from each so you hear both sides of the same story...Super unique area-Kindred Spirit, love what it stands for as generations have used it.Sex scene. She wants to follow her dream.. story continues several decades later and she's downsizing and heading back to the ocean seashore to think of what she had given up...AUthors stories usually have been ending with one happy and one tragically sad and this is similar to that theme.Author fills in missing pieces of their lives over the lost years. Love learning about the locale and far away places and things that happen there.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Nicholas Sparks has just released his latest novel, Every Breath. And true to form, it's a warm, wonderful, heart-string tugging, have a tissue ready, love story.Sparks inserts himself as a character in the preface and epilogue, giving that 'maybe it's true' feeling into this work of fiction. And indeed a pivotal plot point of Every Breath is based in reality - the Kindred Spirit mailbox found on Sunset Beach, Bird Island, NC. People can leave a letter, anyone can read what's left.Sunset Beach is where Hope and Tru meet. Hope is 36 and has come to the family cottage to make some decisions about her future. Tru is staying next door, having flown in from Africa to meet his biological father. And yes, sparks fly and a deep connection is made in a short time. "...there are times when destiny and love collide."Sparks is a master of romantic fiction - the love at first sight, star-crossed, will they, won't they story. And while pragmatic me is skeptical if this could really happen, I absolutely love escaping into the stories in Sparks' books.I like both characters, but found myself more drawn to Tru. I'm not sure I would have made the same decision that Hope makes. The road to true love is a bumpy one at times and Sparks throws some curves into his story - including one I didn't expect at the end.I quite enjoyed Tru's descriptions of his home and life in Africa. In the author's notes Sparks says that " ...the inspiration and setting of the novel are drawn directly from my own experiences. I first traveled to Africa in 2010, and on that trip fell head over heels in love with the countries I was lucky enough to visit...."Every Breath was perfect escapist romantic reading.

How often in one's life must one choose between perceived duty and personal fulfillment? Does one give in to love or set their own desires aside for the sake of others? Can love survive it all? These are the questions faced in this deeply moving and thoughtfully rendered true story delivered in the capable hands of bestselling author, Nicholas Sparks. This amazing story was made all the more so as it puts to voice a tremendous and enduring love story of two very real people. We've heard of the tremendous sacrifices made by "the greatest generation" and this couple is but a wee bit younger than they. I suspect the concepts of honor and duty instilled into WWII allied force culture spilled over into the ethos of this couple. Love they did and sacrifice they must. Heartbreaking - for sure; a beautiful story - absolutely!I found the story touching and exquisitely delivered by Mr. Sparks. The prose was painterly and tenderly delivered. Although this was my first introduction to this author's writing it will certainly not be the last I read of it.I am grateful to author Nicholas Sparks, publisher Hachette Book Group and Goodreads First Reads for having provided a free copy of this book. Their generosity, however, did not influence this review - the words of which are mine alone.Synopsis (from book's dust jacket):In the romantic tradition of The Notebook and Nights in Rodanthe, #1 New York Times bestselling author Nicholas Sparks returns with a story about a chance encounter that becomes a touchstone for two vastly different individuals -- transcending decades, continents, and the bittersweet workings of fate.Hope Anderson is at a crossroads. Nicholas Sparks has given us another great romance set at the beach in North Carolina. This was a light book with themes of love and sadness and hope for the future. Sometimes love arrives at just the right time in people's lives but sometimes its at a time in their lives that it just won't work and people get hurt. This is the case with Hope and Tru. When they met on Sunset Beach, she was taking a break from her long time boyfriend and wondering if they had a future together. He was on a visit from Zimbabwe where he was a safari guide, on his first trip to America to meet his father for the first time. He had a child in Zimbabwe who meant the world to him. When Hope and Tru meet, sparks fly and they fall in love over a matter of days. When they have to make a choice between personal happiness and family responsibilities, it's devastating for both of them. Will they ever meet again and if they do, will their love survive over the year? This was an enduring, heart-warming novel that will have you believe that love can conquer all and last a life time.

Every Breath by Nicholas Sparks is a delightfully heartwarming and engaging romance.

Thirty-six year old Hope Anderson retreats to her family's beach cottage after another fight with her long time boyfriend Josh. The two have been dating off and on for the past six years and she is beginning to think he will never be ready to fully commit to her. Following their latest argument, their relationship is off yet again and Josh's decision to go to Las Vegas with his friends instead of attending a wedding in North Carolina with Hope is quite disheartening. Unable to give up on her dreams of motherhood and marriage, Hope is hoping to work things out with Josh, but will meeting Tru Walls change the direction of her life?

Tru has flown to the NC coast from Zimbabwe to meet his biological father for the first time. Tru is forty-two year divorced father and a wild life safari guide who spends the most of his time in the African bush.  Despite losing his mother in a tragic fire and a troubled relationship with his step-father and half-siblings, Tru is comfortable in his skin and content with his life. The only reason he agrees to meet his father is to hopefully glean information about his mother.  With his father's arrival delayed, Tru  is enjoying his time on the beach when he  begins spending time with Hope.

Hope and Tru do not have much time together but their relationship is intense and emotional. Having confided in one another, their burgeoning friendship quickly turns romantic although neither of them envision a future together. Despite the strength of her feelings for Tru, Hope cannot give up on her six year relationship with Josh. Tru's life is in Zimbabwe with his son but he cannot let Hope leave without confessing his love to her. Will Hope and Tru find a way to be together?

Every Breath is a wonderfully romantic novel that is fast-paced and compelling. Tru and Hope are terrific characters who are immensely appealing and completely lovable. The beach setting is quite picturesque and easy to visualize. The descriptions of Tru's life in Zimbabwe bring the country vibrantly to life.  Nicholas Sparks opens and closes the story with very intriguing entries that are unique and clever. The novel's deeply affecting conclusion is poignant yet uplifting. I absolutely loved and highly recommend this heartfelt and endearing novel to fans of the genre.
