About this ebook
Human colonists land on a future, far-away world with the intention of carving out new lives for themselves far from the overcrowding and pollution on Earth. But, the prospective world is already occupied.
Due to the human's conquering like nature, the two native, mind-linked species decide to withdraw and hide. Four hundred years later, the humans have thrived while the native don and reeth have not. Lillith, a reeth, and her mind-mate Joedon, a don, have to re-establish contact with the troublesome humans to save their people. In a daring attempt, Lillith tricks Joedon into making contact, and he is charged with treason, sentenced to death.
Throughout the four stories in the box set, Lillith and Joedon fight opposition from all three species to reach their goal of integrating the three into a working whole. They discover new talents and new mind-meld opportunities for their people while the humans struggle with the knowledge that they haven't been alone on their new home. Hatred, jealousy and greed get in the way of cooperation. War erupts. Can Lillith's dream of integration occur or will the three species kill each other off?
A novella and three novels, over 900 pages of action, make up the box set. Deeply developed characters, both tender and contentious relationships, and typical inter-species misundertandings will give you a satisfying read.
Reviews:
About Lillith: This book introduced imaginative characters that drew me right into their world. I especially enjoyed the struggles and tensions among the various life forms.
About Emergence: These imaginative characters are easy to care about! This book kept me up several nights when I just had to know what would happen next. The title "Emergence" is fitting since the story moves ever forward in unpredictable (yet delightful) ways. I greatly appreciate tales that illustrate the strength of working together across differences. Well done and much needed these days!
About Encounters: I really enjoyed this installment of the series. It lets us see how the humans feel about the Reeth and Don of the story. The first half tells us the thoughts of the human to match the original story, and second half is an added plus. It takes the reader further into the story.
About Revelations: I love reading a story that lets you hear the voices of different characters. Carol Buhler does that quite well in her series. Love them all, if you have read Anne McCaffrey and Mercedes Lackey you will also love Carol Buhler.
About the box set: We become convinced we understand their motivations completely ... until the passage ahead takes a sudden turn, seemingly off the cliff, forcing us to grasp at coattails to follow along. Ms Buhler's larger story has many such turns to take ... the Lillith Chronicles promise a supply of rereadable stories into the future.
The series currently contains 13 novels and novellas.
Carol Buhler
I spent sixty years working with horses in my spare time from being a wife, a mom, and having several different careers until finally I could devote my full-time attention to them. Raising, training, and competing on various breeds in multiple disciplines, I consider myself a jack of all horse venues, master of none. Currently, I live in Ecuador with my husband where I spend every day reading, writing, or riding, or any combination of the three. To share my wonder of an extraordinary species--the horse--I created Lillith and her world. Gareeth is a planet where telepathic winged horses are intelligent, loving, and infinitely tolerant, and dote on their human-like mind-mates. Once I started with Lillith, she has not let me go.
