About this ebook
How would you react if an eight-year old shouted, "You're not my real mom and dad!" Followed by, "you can't buy me, like you buy a cow!"
This is an inspiring and continuing memoir about the author, Terry, who was adopted, along with his younger sister, to a childless farm couple. Although he was bright, curious, and fiercely independent, he suffered from emotional neglect due to being separated from his biological family as a toddler, followed by the three years he spent in an orphanage.
Upon entering farm life, Terry is immediately put to work and he quickly finds that his new father, a good man at heart, treats him more as a hired man, than as a son. Fortunately, however, the unconditional love his new mother displays, the guiding wisdom of her father, and the soul modeling community he finds himself in, gradually begins the process of uplifting his soul.
To gain peer respect, Terry channels his energy into sports, where he excels, particularly in fast pitch softball and wrestling. He is tough, self-assured, and he stands out, but he finds it difficult to fit into the male pecking order. Will that ever change?
Follow Terry on his journey through adolescence, as he details the perks and pitfalls of country living, what it's like to rise and fall through the ranks of sports, and the profound effects unconditional love can have on a soul that's been carrying, as his mother points out, "The Weight of the World" on his shoulders.
Will Terry finally fit in? Find out in Book III, Growing Skin.

Terry A. Degner is a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. For over twenty-three years, he designed, wrote, directed, and edited hundreds of video, sound, and multimedia productions; including children’s shows, documentaries, dramas, and training and promotional programs. In addition to his media career, the author spent twelve years in sales and marketing, climbing the corporate ladder and winning many awards along the way. He got an education in electronics from the U.S. Navy, a degree from the University of Minnesota in speech (broadcast) journalism, and he is a certified webmaster. Terry was ideally suited to write, with captivating dialogue, this continuing true account of his life—a goal he set for himself at the age of twelve.
