About this ebook
Author William Upski Wimsatt covers a truly remarkable array of topics and perspectives, all while recounting his own evolution from idealistic urban wanderer to community organizer, from graffiti writer to renowned essayist. Wimsatt delivers stories, strategies, suggestions, straight talk, and conversations with maverick activists. He advocates youth taking charge of their own education, whether it’s in or out of school, and promotes the power of young people engaging in philanthropy. A truly original treatise from the paradigm-flipping theorist of youth activism, No More Prisons goes beyond pinpointing problems to hone in on solutions, and declares that today’s youth is poised to surpass the activist efforts of the 1960s generation.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5a no-nonsense treatise on the culture of prisons, physical and mental. my copy is heavily underlined and referred to often. upski & soft skull press both rock -- I haven't come across anything that was written/published by one or the other that I haven't found uplifting and useful.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book is better as a reminder than as a wake-up call. Wimsatt didn't write a coherent, cohesive argument so much as an anecdotally charged, energetic ramble. That critique mentioned, Wimsatt is clearly a righteous person who implements the most useful forms of self-help and groundswell/grassroots activism and community involvement.
Not even half of Americans have ever been punched in the face, apparently. Craziness!
