Crystal Dawn

When she’s not out hunting rogue vampires and werewolves, you can find Crystal Dawn out exploring the galaxy. She can do it all without ever leaving her computer. She kicks ass, takes names, and puts it all down for the enjoyment of her readers. At least that’s what I think she told me. Writing came as a natural outlet for her overly creative mind. She has always told stories and even written some but publishing books didn't start until 2012 with The Rebirth, was the first of the Planet Amazon books. Crystal has also been lucky to have some wonderful beta readers who keep her on track and help inspire her.Secretly, she crushes on all her sexy heroes because all her stories end happily. That is one of the things that makes writing such a joy. Knowing that it makes her reader's day a little brighter. Not that she doesn't read sad books sometimes. While still in school, she read Where the Red Fern Grows and cried like a baby. It was a wonderful book and sometimes a bit of sadness has to be put in books because that's part of life. While she reads all kinds of books at some time or another, PNR and SFR, which she writes is what she reads the most for pleasure. When she started writing, she decided on going Indie after the first two books because an author has more control. She believes Indie will compete well and continues to grow. The need to give pleasure to her readers keeps her going and she sees a long career ahead. Growing up mostly in the NW Arkansas area, it has given her a good place to set some stories and many of her characters come from there or nearby SW Missouri. The start of her stories is the easy part. Finishing them is a little harder when all the stories are in there trying to get out. She loves reading, chocolate, fine sweet wine, and traveling among a large list of pursuits. Her favorite people, after her family and close friends, are her readers who she says are some of the most wonderful people in this galaxy and the next.

Ariel herself is targeted by a group called the forgotten ones who had faded into the background, but now show themselves again hoping to use Ariel or her family to rise to power and eventually rule the world like they always hoped to. As if being targeted by obsessive outcasts from the wolf world isn’t enough, the reason Blake was in her corner of the world was to set up a pack. His brother Drake is their alpha, but the pack has grown too large for the resources available to them where they are. Rather than move the whole pack, they decide to divide into two packs. Half stay with Drake and half go with Blake.

Through the danger, abductions, the stress of starting a new pack, a vicious ex-girlfriend, and all the difficulties of a dramatic change from human to wolf, Blake and Ariel find their love is strong. They build their new pack along with their new relationship letting nothing hold them back.

    Prologue

I’d come to this new place to start a better life. It had been amazing in many ways, but I still needed something to be truly happy. Was I greedy? Probably. Since I’d come here, I had met the white wolf. Ariel had taken me in and helped me more than anyone in my life ever had before.

My dream job had been mine only a few days after I arrived. She’d done that for me. A car? No problem and it was a good solid one that would see me through. A house? Again, she’d come through for me just a couple of weeks in. I was doing most of the work to make it perfect for me. That was part of the trouble. It was perfect for me alone. That made me realize I needed someone special to share it with.

Honestly, I’d never thought of a mate before because my life was so messed up, I didn’t want to share it. Now I had all the basics, so I was dreaming of those things that make a male’s life perfect. Ariel had said when the time was right my other half would be revealed and not to push it or I might end up with the wrong one. So now that it was months later and the house was nearly done, what was a male to do?

    Chapter 1

    Lonely

I looked at the online ad again. Young Asian Ladies Looking for Love. Last week the ad had said Russian women. Maybe they were all like me, lonely. Printing out the section with Omi and Zin in it I looked at the hand that held it. Damn it! I wadded up the paper and threw it in the trash can.

A mail order bride wasn’t right for me. It wasn’t even the human factor, I’d dated a few human girls. That it hadn’t worked out was the lack of sparks, not their race. My being a werewolf was just one more thing to overcome if all the other things worked out. Tonight, I was on night patrol. Almost always, I went in a bit early to see if anything exciting was going on.

Thankfully, it was rare that we had trouble. I was already dressed in my uniform and my county SUV sat outside waiting. Everything in my life was perfect or nearly so except my love life. I hopped in, turned on the radio, and I immediately began to hear what was going on across the county. There was an ambulance headed toward the hospital with a victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Were they a victim if they did it themselves? Maybe if it was an accident?

One of my fellow officers had stopped a speeder and was giving them a ticket for that and some registration expirations. I drove up to him since his location was on my way into the office. I pulled behind him to show support, but I wouldn’t get out unless there was a problem. I knew people made comments about us doubling up on poor motorists. The problem was if we didn’t, that one time it would be a violent criminal and a deputy could end up dead.

This wasn’t one of those times. Leroy waved at me appreciating the backup and glad it wasn’t needed. The car in front of him took off and he took off as well. I brought up the rear. It was good that it had all gone well. While we didn’t have trouble often, in the history of our department there had been several deputies and even sheriffs injured or killed. That was something to never forget.

Leroy parked at the sheriff’s department and I parked next to him. We walked in together. I got along with most of the people here. One notable exception was the old biddy at the entry desk. She was hateful and nasty. The woman resented those who had gotten jobs here without going through her. I immediately noticed she was not at her desk.

The female was probably on a long break. She took them often. Not that she needed them. Her whole day was a break. Maybe she thought she was slick, but we all knew she had a small computer she watched TV on and sent off emails. It got more use than her office phone or computer. Only the guys related to her could stand her. And maybe that was because she’d helped some of them get jobs? Several had been as bad as her and no longer worked here.

Hey Kord. Glad to see you. Ron called out.

What’s been going on today? I asked.

Same stuff, different day. He chuckled. Most of the time that was the way things were. There is one thing you might be glad to hear. The secretary is gone, and Jim hired a new one.

That is good news. I hope this one will actually do her work. I replied.

I have a feeling she will. Ariel recommended her.

    She’ll be good then.

I have to go now but I hope you have a good night. Hopefully, it’ll be quiet. Ron observed.

Quiet was always good. And after I went to court, I decided there was time to go out and hit the road. It would just be a quick ride then back for lunch. I patrolled in different areas and that helped keep things interesting. I had my radio on in case I got any calls, and I went down Cisco Road then I’d head to Green Forest. Next, I went to Alpena where the county ended, and I turned around heading back to Berryville.

Having patrolled some, I went to the office and caught up on my reports until lunch. I met a couple other deputies at a local pizza place, and we enjoyed our meal together. No calls had come through yet tonight. That made things even quieter than normal.

So Kord, how is the work on your house going? Reuben asked.

I’m getting close to being done. It would be done if I hadn’t worked on the barn and the yard too. I’ve got those done and I’m raising some chickens and pigs. There’s also a couple horses I bought that I’m breaking.

Damn, Man. You work too hard. Don’t let my wife know you’re doing all that. She’ll be on me constantly. Reuben assured.

Hell, my girlfriend is already on me all the time. Dave admitted. I’m afraid if I marry her, she’ll be a complete shrew.

Why don’t you just do what she wants, and she’ll be happy? I asked.

She was born unhappy, and she’ll die that way. I do what she wants, and she’ll just want more. Dave insisted.

That was a sad way to look at a female you were supposed to love. Hell, I’d be happy to do what was needed to make a mate happy. I just needed to find the right one. No one had much to say now that Dave had expressed his unhappiness. Maybe the guy needed to move on and find another girlfriend.

Have you heard Jim hired a real hottie to be the secretary? Reuben asked.

You’re married, Man. You shouldn’t be sniffing around like that. Dave observed.

Even the wife says it doesn’t matter where you get your appetite as long as you eat at home. Reuben insisted. Dave laughed so hard tears came to his eyes.

And right now, you’re sitting in a restaurant eating. Dave said.

Reuben shot him a nasty look. Just wait until you see the girl. You’ll be drooling.

That good huh? Dave asked. What about you, Kord? Don’t you care? You’re single and can give chase.

I’m sure I’ll see her eventually and then I’ll introduce myself. I replied. Truth was that I was curious. So far everyone I’d talked to had thought the girl was sweet and pretty. That only made me want to meet her soon.

We finished our meal and went back to our respective work. When we patrolled, we had certain areas we covered, and Jim liked to have the county well covered. Jim took into consideration where each deputy lived, and they were also allowed to drive their official SUVs when off duty. Because the shortage right now of personnel in the department, all of us were on call all the time.

Our department was always short-handed so it was unlikely that it would ever change. The sight of the official vehicles gave the impression that protection was there. Since they could be called on duty at any time, that protection was there even if they weren’t on duty at that moment. These deputies also were allowed to go on duty if they were presented with a serious illegal act.

Right now, I was going back to the department so I could catch up on my paperwork. Heading that way, it seemed I was the only one going there. Either I was the only one behind on the paperwork or the only one worried about staying caught up.

Pulling in the lot, I parked in an available spot. Today I’d started midmorning to attend a trial. The doer had pled out, so I didn’t
