About this ebook
Hot as a summer night
Since her mother's tragic suicide, Lindsay Newman has watched her wealthy Mississippi family spin out of control. Tired of being a pawn in men's games, Lindsay is determined to become a rebel in her own life – and Mitch Rawlings ignites that first white–hot spark. Tanned, shirtless and all–male, he's dangerous, defiant and oh, so tempting
Reckless as forbidden love
Mitch won't deny his hunger for Lindsay, but the Newman's new groundskeeper isn't interested in playing games with a spoiled little rich girl. Lindsay's world is the last thing he wants yet he wants Lindsay herself more than anything. Something sad and vulnerable in Lindsay's golden eyes invites him to reach out and risk his own heart. But, like everyone else in the Newman household, he's got something to hide. Something that could tear Lindsay away from him forever.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This important book could be missed by some individuals who may only give glimpse to the title, the cover art, and / or a combination of the two. I have read novels by Mary Lynn Baxter previously so I know that her novels are not merely contemporary romance fiction where everything is sweetness and bon bons, love and roses. This novel is an important contribution as it shares a daughter and a son’s experience with a father that is used to having his words be the decision of record on any matter of discussion – professional or personal. Dr. Cooper Newman considers it his ‘right’ to make decisions and expects his guidance to be followed regardless of another’s feelings, and / or interests. Dr. Tim Newman has followed in his father’s footsteps as a cardiologist but doesn’t feel he’s having the ‘charmed’ rewards as anticipated. Daughter Lindsay Newman is trying very hard to overcome emotional turmoil and depression that she has experienced ever since her mother’s suicide. Add to the mix that both father and son don’t give much credence if any to Lindsay’s philanthropy efforts or an idea that has sparked in her mind as the cause that would give her life meaning as well as to the community and you discover a young woman that is on the edge. A new arrival on the family estate is a truly sultry man of mystery hired to be the estate manager who is obviously a hard worker but between the phone calls he receives and unexpected visitors, one isn’t sure if Lindsay should be exploring the sparks that are instantly ignited between them. There is also the portrayal of a wonderful and supportive girlfriend for Lindsay to turn who listens without judgment and does everything that she can to build Lindsay’s self-confidence and encourage her independence. There are many meaningful subjects within this novel all of which are so pertinent to today’s headlines: Bullying; Suicide; Depression; Parental Control; Domestic Violence; Counterfeit Drugs; to name a few. This is a thoughtfully written novel and as various new conflicts arise in each character’s relationships the reader can’t be too quick to imagine that a “happily ever after” is possible for any of them.I have one further comment to share on the cover art. Although it is a pretty cover, I am disappointed in it being used as representation of this novel as none of the female characters in this story ever recline on a hammock.I hope that this title will ‘find its way’ particularly to women that need to find the courage within, the strength to stand up for themselves, and to believe that they deserve the happiness they seek. I know from personal experiences that new beginnings are hard but each individual needs to make his/her own independent decision to change personal circumstances. Going forward doesn’t happen automatically. Time is short. Time is precious. I’d like to cast a magic wand to share that light bulb moment when one realizes you don’t have to waste time with someone that doesn’t take you seriously, someone that doesn’t care about the things that you are most passionate about and the things that are most meaningful to you. Read the novel and you’ll learn what decisions Lindsay made for herself and her future and the life-changing decision by her brother Tim.
