About this ebook

Ezra "Jinx" Helm is as dead as Elvis. But we all know Elvis isn't really dead, and neither is Jinx. At least, he hopes so. A mortar blast took him from the Earthly plane of existence at age twenty-eight, but his sister, Eliza, just happens to come from a long line of healing witches. Him being a warlock doesn't quite pack the punch he needs to keep himself corporeal. Because she loves her brother so, and he owes her five-hundred smackaroos, she is able to heal him and bring him back to the land of the living, temporarily.

Constance Medina Maria Luisa Dulce de Vargas y Aguilar is also dead. She's been groomed to take over as Nuestra Senora de la Santa Muerte, aka Our Lady of the Holy Death, or as she prefers, Lady Death. While she doesn't mind ushering in new souls into the afterlife playground—which looks a lot like a resort in Playa del Carmen—she's being forced to marry one of the Lords of Xibalba to maintain balance in the underworld, and she's not happy about it one bit. In a panic, she runs away from the realm of the dead and ends up in Assjacket, WV. Connie meets a ridiculously powerful and fantastically wardrobed witch named Zelda, who she hopes can get her out of the arranged marriage.

Jinx knows his sister can only keep up the farce of him being undead for so long, as he died in World War II and she's been getting really pissy about having to renew his spell every month. He seeks out the most powerful healing witch he knows for help. But Zelda has her own set of problems with a husband, kids, a forest full of animals needing healing and Lady Death hanging around her doorstep like an emo Eeyore. In exchange for her help, Zelda offers Jinx a deal, take Santa Muerte off her hands for a little bit and she'll figure out a way to bring him back from the dead, permanently.

    Chapter 1

Being dead really sucked . Depending on your sister to keep up your corporeal form sucked even worse. As usual, Eliza marched to the beat of her own drum, one off rhythm and never on time. I had to be back on the naval base in San Diego in an hour, and her ass still hadn’t shown up. To her credit, penciling in her brother once a month to recharge his body probably got a little tedious, but she should know the routine by now since it’s her fault I’m this way in the first place. If she would have just let me die when I was supposed to, we wouldn’t have to go through this every month.

A spark of electricity sizzled in the air around me, making the hair on my barely visible arms zap to attention. Eliza shimmered into view, decked out in the tightest leather pants I’d ever seen and a tank top that seemed to be missing most of its fabric.

What the hell are you wearing? I asked, channeling my big-brother attitude.

I was partying in Ibiza. You took me away from a ridiculously rich warlock and his best friend, who happens to be a Shifter. We were going to test some laws of gravity, if you know what I mean, Eliza said with a delirious smirk.

Spare me the details. I shot a hand up in defense. The last thing I needed was information on my sister’s sexual exploits. Let’s just get this over with. I’m about to be deployed on another mission, and I need full use of a human body.

Okay, okay, Eliza said, leaning in as she studied me. You’re looking awfully transparent these days. Have you been taking the potion I gave you the last time? It was supposed to help sustain you between recharges.

I did. Trust me. I’ve noticed that I’m waning back to my ghostly form far quicker than I used to. Are you loosing your mojo?

She hitched a shoulder, clutching a hand to her chest like some academy award-winning actress. Don’t blame me for your short-comings, Ezra. I can’t help it your having a penis makes you weaker and you can’t hold your corporealization like you used to.

Unfortunately, she was right. Warlocks were the weaker sect of paranormals than witches. We may come from the same bloodline, but by nature, warlocks weren’t nearly as powerful as witches.

It’s your fault I’m this way to begin with. If you’d have just let me stay dead, I wouldn’t have to drag you away from a threesome once a month. Preparing for our usual sibling squabble, I took a hard stance and folded my arms, well, what was left of them.
