J'ai enseigné l'anglais pendant de nombreuses années et j'ai vu que beaucoup d'étudiants se retrouvent coincés au niveau débutant ou intermédiaire. Ils apprennent les bases et ne peuvent pas aller de l'avant. Ce problème me frustrait vraiment parce que j'avais beaucoup d'excellents élèves qui étaient coincés et qui finiraient par abandonner.
J'ai longuement réfléchi à ce qui n'allait pas et j'ai ensuite décidé que ce n'était pas que l'élève n'avait pas de capacités, mais que ce qu'ils étudiaient et comment ils étudiaient n'étaient pas efficace.
J'ai vu que même s'ils avaient un bon anglais de base, ils lisaient des manuels remplis par leur langue maternelle (qui n'est pas l'anglais). J'avais l'habitude de penser : « Pourquoi lisez-vous tout cet allemand, japonais, etc. sur l'anglais au lieu que ce soit directement de l'anglais ? J'ai décidé de voir si je pouvais résoudre ce problème.
J'ai commencé à assigner des devoirs aux élèves tels que : « regardez ce feuilleton anglais avec sous-titres et ensuite sans » ou « lisez un court article tous les soirs pendant un mois ». J'ai trouvé que les résultats étaient étonnants. Mes élèves ont commencé à devenir beaucoup plus fluides et confiants. Cela m'a convaincu que la meilleure façon de parler couramment était de lire en anglais ou de regarder des choses en anglais qui intéressaient les étudiants. J'ai donc commencé à écrire de courtes histoires en utilisant de l'anglais facile à comprendre, mélangé avec des idiomes et des « phrasal verbs » que les locuteurs natifs anglais utilisent tout le temps.
Dans ce livre, j'ai ajouté des explications en anglais pour que vous ne confondiez pas l'anglais et votre langue maternelle dans votre tête. J'ai également inclus des exemples faciles à comprendre que je vous recommande de noter dans un carnet afin que vous puissiez vous en souvenir facilement.
À mon avis, l'apprentissage des idiomes, des « phrasal verbs » et des phrases utiles est la meilleure façon de faire progresser votre anglais, car vous utiliserez le vocabulaire que les anglophones utilisent tous les jours.

Ce livre est en anglais et s'adresse aux étudiants de niveau intermédiaire qui veulent acquérir de la fluidité. Quiconque a étudié une langue sait qu'il est très difficile de sortir du niveau intermédiaire. Après avoir appris les bases, de nombreux élèves ont du mal à s'améliorer. I have never been what you would call a ladies man. It’s not that I don’t like women or that I don’t want to go out with them, it’s just that I’ve never been that confident. Because of this, my mother is always worrying about me and trying to fix me up with people from her work. Anyway, a few years ago I was just on my way home from a disastrous date with someone my mother had set me up with when I decided to stop at a bar to drown my sorrows. I was sitting at the bar when I heard a woman talking on the phone. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop on her conversation, but there was something about her voice that caught my attention.

Not what you would call: this phrase is used when you want to politely say that the person or thing is completely different to the ‘adjective’ or ‘noun’ that follows the phrase. So for example, ‘She’s not what you would call hardworking’ means that she is not at all a hard worker. She is lazy.
