Jesus Said - Chance McLin, Ph.D.

    Week One

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.

      Psalm 103:2 ❖

    ***

The human mind, Divinely created, has a remarkable way of isolating pains of the past.

I have broken many bones in my life. At the moment of injury, the pain was clear, detailed, and easily identifiable. As time passed however, it became more and more difficult to recall the pain with detail until one day I had forgotten it, altogether. Once I was given a clean bill of health, I had no reason to think of that bone again.

Unfortunately, that applies to blessings as well. At the time of occurrence, it’s easy for us to identify them for what they are and to experience the joy that comes with them in great detail. But with the passage of time, it’s just as easy to forget what Jesus has done for us in the past. Psalm 116:12 reminds us to remember those blessings, "What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits to me?"

It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of our lives and evidences of His love for us fade from memory until we need Him again.

As Believers, we owe Him more than that. His love for us is never-ending. Our gratitude for all that He does and has ever done should be as well.

    Exercise

Once a day (minimum), make quiet time to reflect on anything that He has done for you in the past (no matter how small), and offer a genuine, heartfelt Thank You.

    Meditate on 1 Chronicles 16:34

    Week Two

Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases,

     Psalm 103:3 ❖

    ***

Mention the word disease and it’s sure to drum up thoughts of cancer, multiple sclerosis, or even diabetes but the truth is, disease presents itself in a multitude of ways. Some, like those listed above, and others, are as obvious as the sun at high noon. Others, however, are a bit sneakier and are experts at flying below the radar. Let me explain.

Dis-Ease (without ease), can be anything that robs you of your peace of mind or comfort and leaves you in an unpleasant or painful state. These can be deadlines at work, a failing relationship, or a destructive pattern of behavior that you just can’t seem to break. Anything, at any second, that robs you of your sense of ease.

Many people (even I), can fail to recognize these situations for what they are, and make a habit of trying to cure ourselves, only to realize far too late that we don’t have the right treatment. Jeremiah 30:17 says, ‘But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord.

Whatever your dis-ease, there’s no need to wrestle with your own afflictions. Jesus tells us that He is the Ultimate Physician. Call on Him. It’s cheaper and unlike modern practitioners, He still makes house calls.

    Exercise

Identify one overlooked source of dis-ease in your life and commit to allowing the Lord Jesus to handle it.

    Meditate on Jeremiah 17:14

    Week Three

Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times.

     Romans 12:12 ❖

    ***

A man once prayed for favor regarding a promotion on his job. He waited a few weeks, became frustrated, and deciding that his prayers would not be answered, tendered his resignation in order to, Find someone who would appreciate him.

After accepting a less paying job and starting over, he ran into his ex-manager at lunch one day. The promotion came up in conversation and the manager closed the topic stating, You know, it’s a shame you left. The promotion was yours. We only had one position left to fill before we could move you up.

We live in a world of instant gratification. We want what we want, when we want it, and usually, we want it now. And, when we can’t get it, we give up and look elsewhere and in doing so, we abandon our hopes of promotion.

Life is a chess game. You see the end game long before checkmate but, several pieces have to be moved before victory’s achieved. When we pray, Jesus sees the end game and starts to move the necessary pieces to bring us to checkmate. But, if we’re impatient, we grow frustrated, walk away from the board, and never see the victory at the end.

When you ask of Jesus in prayer, fight the urge to rush Him. Stand back, be still, and trust that He will make the right moves.

    It’s true that we
