About this ebook

Hagenspan was a mythic land that once existed in our own world--nearest estimates place it somewhere in the north Atlantic, perhaps during the Middle Ages. Apparently one of the last bastions for creatures from the Old World, its shores were haunted by memories of dwarfs and fairies, kobolds and trolls, giants and dragons. The tales of Hagenspan recount the days when humankind had nearly, but not quite, forgotten those other folk, who were diminishing as it had been decreed. The Hagenspan Chronicles are a bittersweet recounting of the world that once was; sometimes whimsical, sometimes heroic, sometimes heart-rending.

Book Nine of the Hagenspan Chronicles, Owan's Regret: Peace of a Kind, describes the conclusion of the War of the Dragon King, and tells the story of what the heroes of Hagenspan encountered when the war was finally over. It is a romantic story set in medieval times with more than a hint of epic fantasy themes. It explores themes infrequently encountered in tales like this, relating specifically to the act of loving: lust and desire, romance and delight, sacrifice, duty, and reward.

Robert W. Tompkins has been called "fantasy's best kept secret." He is the author of The Hagenspan Chronicles, as well as a couple of non-fiction books. He was born in 1959 in upstate New York, where he has lived most of his life. He wrote over four hundred songs in his youth, and turned to fiction around the beginning of the current century.
