IMMORTAL BOUND
––––––––
Elle’s heart thundered loudly inside of her chest with a combination of excitement and fear as she stood outside the enormous warehouse and prepared to insert the code into the small security box that would grant her access. However, she just stood there, her hand dangling limply as she questioned her sanity for the millionth time that week.
She knew very well that this could just be a fad, something that would pass to the next thing on a long list of crazy ideas. But she had leapt anyway and now it was too late. Elle was the not-so-proud new owner of a very large, and probably very much in need of remodeling, warehouse on the not-so-good side of town. All because she had seen a picture of a similar space transformed into a work of art and had been daydreaming of all the really awesome and cool ideas, she hoped, that she could implement with the same success.
Less than a month later, she had decided to troll around for a not-to-expensive building, lucking out when she had come across this gem, including all of its unknown contents, at an auction. That’s right, she had never set foot inside the actual building and yet here she was, the maybe-proud new owner of the whole kit and caboodle.
What a riot, what a laugh. Her friends and family were going to flip when they found out. Well, her friends would anyway. Elle thought the massive locks, copious amounts of steel, and fully monitored electronic security system might actually keep her family out for long enough to call it a much-needed vacation. That is, if her luck held true, which it had better, she thought. She may not have spent much for the building itself but she had heard that renovations could get pretty damned pricey if you dug too deep on a place like this and wanted to do it right. Elle definitely wanted to do it right.
Taking a deep breath, she entered the seven digit code and heard the final locking mechanism beep calmly several times, allowing her safe entry into the massive structure. Elle tried to think of nothing at all as she opened the door, knowing that to hold any hope or expectations at this point would only lead to disappointment. So when she stepped through the extremely tall, wide door, she was not only shocked but also a bit disoriented and confused to see what lay within. Sure now that it had all been one big horrible joke or an even bigger mistake, Elle backed up three steps until her feet once again hit the pavement. From there, she shut the just opened door silently and reengaged all of the locks before walking rather calmly to her car and driving to the nearest police station, wishing instead for a much-needed drink. The whole time, Elle saw little of her surroundings as the inside of the warehouse and its gruesome contents flashed through her terrified mind.

I’m sorry for the long wait Mrs. Joel, how can we help you today?
a distracted-looking man in tight blue jeans and an amazing ass half hidden by a somewhat wrinkled jacket stepped in front of Elle before she could see his approach. Her bright green eyes did a once-over before locking on his own amused gaze.
"It’s Ms., not Mrs., and I think I had better show you, rather than try to explain myself once again," she retorted a little sharply, tired of being given the runaround after her less-than-relaxing afternoon.
I’m afraid that’s impossible ma’am, I seem to have a full schedule today and open cases I need to get back to. If you could just-
Elle stood and started walking toward the door, cutting the detective off midsentence and annoying him enough that he followed with a scowl.
Ms. Joel, please,
the jean-clad jerk said somewhat loudly as she outpaced him. Staring straight ahead, Elle walked past the uniformed officers she had already spoken to, ignoring their soft laughter and amused looks as she aimed for the glass doors at the front of the building.
Ma’am, I suggest you stop, now.
Ella stopped before the detective’s words had fully registered and cursed the genes that refused to allow her to push him past that point of no return. Slowly, she turned, her chin held at a stubborn angle and her eyes flashing with fury.
Your name sir,
she requested, but he only looked at her, scanned her small form as she had him just moments before. "You never introduced
