      Sire of the Found System

      Merlyn carefully pushed the blackberry vine out of his way. Thing had thorns as long as his thumbnail, about a billion of them. Freaky part wasn't those thorns. It was that the leaves had thorns, smaller ones, all along the underside of the leaves. Made the damned vines like something out of a nightmare. If the thing suddenly wrapped itself around him, thorns digging in until they cut his skin and his blood poured out to feed it, Merlyn wouldn't be surprised.

      Whole forest was like that no matter what Pema claimed as she happily clambered over a fallen log the size of Merlyn's chest up ahead. Seriously, if he didn't love her so much…

      Trail washed out, blackberry brambles everywhere, Devil's Club sprouting up all along the trail like toxic-thorned thistle-cabbages of doom; this forest was nowhere that Merlyn wanted to be. Hell,
