Long past my sell-by date but doing all I can to keep fit with daily exercise and a healthy breakfast I spend most of my time writing and listening to the radio with occasional excursions in the local countryside on my electric-assist bike. A daveshort account of a brief but beautiful friendship

Thor and Nigel were unwitting participants in The Party at the End of Time. This is the account of a brief but beautiful friendship, is a Daveshort written specially to divert commuters from the awful fact of their daily lives. It may be read in the course of one average rail journey. It is not rude and it contains a bare minimum of strong language. It may be read in perfect safety by ladies and servants but not chauffeurs, taxi or bus drivers when engaged in their professional duties .

    A striking Viking

As Vikings go Thor was presentable. In fact for some people he represented the epitome of what a true Viking should be, though by this time even the best of his friends would be forced to admit that he was becoming a little frayed at the edges. Nevertheless it was impossible to overlook that towering frame, the carved, determined features and the hair that, even by Viking standards was blond and plentiful. His arms bulged with muscles bulked out by daily practice with the battle axe and the judicious use of anabolic steroids. Difficult to believe that he had once been thought of as the runt of the litter.

The shivering thirteen year old had been bundled aboard his first longship deep in his home fjord by a father who was determined to bring him to manhood following the long tradition of his family. He bore a family name that was even by Scandinavian standards unpronounceable when sober but the boy had been pleasantly surprised as the oars were plied and the boat shot off from shore
