    Chapter I – The End ?

    Lisa Capulet and her son-in-law George bring a huge, golden brown roasted turkey to the table on a gleaming metal platter, and place it in front of Cappy Capulet, who, as head of the household, carves the bird.

    I was fond of him while he was alive, says Cappy; but I like him even better, stuffed and roasted.

    I remember him when he was just a fluffy chick last spring. He matured so rapidly; it’s hard to believe he got so big so soon, says Lisa.

    Turkey Lurkey was special bird. He was so fond of corn, he ate huge amounts of it. His feeder was empty every time I turned around, says George.

    From a tree on the hillside above the window a pair of large, dark, round eyes watch the feast with growing horror:

    That’s a turkey’s body, how could they! Can it be true? Are humans cannibals?  I can’t believe it! Lurkey! They’ve always loved him and admired him, and fed him so well; now they betray him and eat him? Am I dreaming? This must be a nightmare.

    Chapter II – Young Lurkey

    It’s March 17, and Buzz the turkey vulture is circling above a poultry hatchery, savoring the odors, watching the people as they come to work, listening to their conversations and to the chirps and peeps of baby birds coming from inside
