    Introduction

ONE OF THE THINGS I love most about Christmas is the buildup; the anticipation. We don’t just carry on with our everyday lives and wake up one morning surprised to find that it’s Christmas. We prepare for it. We decorate. I love the songs and the excitement—the holiday cheer.

As I was preparing to write this book, I pondered on that first Christmas so long ago. The excitement was there, just in a different way.  Mary’s song wasn’t one of holiday cheer, but of joyful adoration. She wasn’t looking back, she was looking forward. It must have been a magnificent sight when the angels appeared to the shepherds; one that could never be rivaled by a modern-day Christmas pageant (no matter how cute the little shepherds are).

Over the next few weeks, we are going to journey through the pages of Scripture and look at Christmas from different angles. Yes, Christmas came. We know what we celebrate, but I think we lose some of the wonder when we forget that Christmas is still coming. It was coming back then, and it’s still coming today. Christmas wasn’t just a moment in time, it’s something deeper, something more than a moment.

    Jesus transcends time.

2 Peter 3:8 says, do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Yes, we remember the story of Christ’s birth, but we celebrate who He is and what He has done.

Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace (Is 9:6). I don’t know where this holiday season finds you, but I need to remember that. I’ll be candid and let you know that life in the Hart house has been rough this year. Between car problems, financial difficulties, hospital stays, and too many other hardships to count, this morning found me in tears.

This Christmas can either be a burden or a blessing. It’s all in the way we approach the holiday. If I were to focus on all that has gone wrong just this week alone, I would be in a pit of despair. But Christmas is coming. God sent His Son into the world because He knew we needed a Savior.

So, whatever life has handed you this year, good or bad, I pray that this Christmas season can be a season of joy for you. A season of refocusing your heart on the King of the World. Christmas is coming, but God can fill your heart with joy and be your refuge all season long.

    In addition to the daily
