About this ebook

It's summer in Tofino, BC. This means chilling, hanging out with friends and meeting hot boys.

Not so for Maya Finnigan, who's stuck in summer school with extra classes in order to make it to college. Looks like another summer of studying and boring "fun" - and hanging out with her loyal German Shepherd, Bear. Or will it be?

Kolt Waters meets the "hot" criteria with his intense blue eyes and Brit accent, plus he's the boy-next-door. But his smug attitude and never-ending jabs get on Maya's nerves.

When Bear goes missing, surprisingly it's Kolt who jumps to the rescue. But is their budding romance a happily ever after or a wreck in disguise? And what's the story with their parents, and the secrets they hide?

Dig in for a summer of fun, mystery and first loves...as unconditional as they come.

Alexa Whitewolf

Alexa Whitewolf is a fiction writer, newspaper columnist of daily issues and author of the critically acclaimed Moonlight Rogues shifter series.  Alexa has been a lifelong writer and first began creating other worlds and characters at the ripe age of 12. Growing up in the Transylvania region surrounded by epic mountains and a never ending stream of legends and stories was bound to create an overactive imagination. This shines through Ms. Whitewolf’s writing by creating worlds filled with unique folklore, life wisdom and plenty of furry creatures.  An avid traveler, Alexa writes under a penname and spends her days between an office job and writing, in Canada’s capital when she’s not flying somewhere with lush landscapes and plenty of hiking trails. Her series focus on strong heroines, kind yet sexy men, fights of good and evil and the never-ending learning curve of humanity’s strong – and weak – points. Romanian folklore is intertwined with her writing, more notably in her shifter romance series, the Moonlight Rogues. Her other series draw on world mythology, such as the Avalon myth and Arthurian legend (the Avalon Chronicles) and Ancient Egypt (The Sage’s Legacy). You can follow her blog at www.alexawhitewolf.com/blog or on social media. Her column in Observatorul also tackles various issues, including health, technology, and a writer’s life. To Nero, my beautiful German Shepherd – you are still missed.

For Zeus and Achilles, my furry babies who keep me going, and all the dogs out there that make us humans the best versions of ourselves we can be.

    Bear

A kiss would wake her up.  He’d tried to contain his bladder knowing how much his mistress liked to sleep in. But after that last nap where he’d dreamt of swimming, he really needed to go.

Tapping the floor hadn’t worked. Neither had whining. He’d tried pulling the covers off her, but she only rolled onto the other side.

But somehow, he knew a kiss would do the trick.

Something wet trickled on Maya’s forehead. Though unexpected, it was not enough to shake her from the deep slumber she was in. Rather than open her eyes, the sixteen-year-old rolled over in bed and ran an impatient hand over her face, then buried her head in the pillow.

    Silence. Blissful silence.

Then the wetness came again, this time near her ear. Maya groaned, desperate now to return to her dream. Koby Bryant, the renowned basketball player, had showed up at her homecoming dance and was asking her for a slow dance – could it get any better?

    Yes.

The word was past her lips, but the wetness by her ear prevented Maya from speaking it. Then it got worse! Whatever it was moved down her cheek, and finally her lips. Just as Koby was getting close in her dream, itching for a kiss, a raspy tongue ran from chin to forehead, through lips and nose.

    What the—

Maya snapped to, jumping in bed and glancing around. Though she tried to blink the sleep out of her eyes and return to the reality that was her life, nothing helped. Her startling green eyes finally fell on the culprit, kneeling by the side of her bed, tongue lolling out and grinning.

    Bear!

The massive German Shepherd read the annoyance in Maya’s voice and his ears flattened on his head. Sheepish, he rested his head on the bed and gave her the best innocent, doe-eyed expression he could.

Maya wiped a hand down her face, near-growling in frustration. "I was having such a nice dream, and you had to go and kiss me? Yuck!"

Noticing his bereft expression and puppy eyes, Maya sighed and held up a hand. Bear jumped on the bed, tentatively wagging his tail. When she rolled her eyes and smiled, he pushed forth and lay down in her lap, nudging her until Maya was petting him.

It’s okay, boy. It was just a dream, anyway. Not like I’m going to the damn dance anyway once school starts.

A quick glance to the alarm on her night table confirmed it was nearly time to get ready for class. Damn.

The kitchen seemed deceitfully empty without her father cooking her breakfast, but Maya was used to his long hours. As his own boss and head of a construction firm, James Finnigan didn’t have a usual nine-to-five job. Then again, he was a man of such charisma and energy that he didn’t act anything like his forty-years-old.

Bear trailing her steps, Maya quickly whipped up some scrambled eggs and dropped a generous amount on his breakfast. I know daddy says only kibble for you, but a little protein never hurt anyone.

The German Shepherd sat on his hind legs, ears perked and muzzle closed as if what she was saying was the most important thing in the world. Maya shook her head and placed the plate in front of him, but still Bear looked to her for guidance.

    With a sigh,
