About this ebook
A bird’s eye view of the magnificent Wind River Mountains from a man who climbed their peaks—includes color photos!
Long-time naturalist and former rancher Joe Hutto’s deep connection to Wyoming has led him on many adventures. This time, he braved the heights of the Wind River Mountain Range of the Rockies to observe Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, and discover why they are declining in record numbers. Settled in a tent at twelve thousand feet above sea level, the author was able to get up close and personal with the rare sheep, but not without encountering mountain lions, bears, and some of Wyoming’s other famous wildlife.
Combining the history of the cowboy, the particular ecology of the Rockies, and the natural splendor of the environment, Hutto writes with reverence and grace of the plight of the Bighorn Sheep, and uncovers the man-made causes that are endangering them. Including twenty color photos, this author’s reflection on what’s needed to save our environment is both timely and cautionary.
