Oh, Christmas Tree! A Sweet Lesbian Romance - B. K. Wiggins
Chapter One
"E mma, don’t forget. You planned on getting the office Christmas tree this afternoon.:
I know, I’m headed out now, Courtney,
Emma yelled over her shoulder.
But you have a meeting at one o’clock.
Courtney didn’t think Emma would have enough time. She normally wouldn’t call Emma by her first name, but there were no clients scheduled at the moment and Emma insisted she not call her Miss Wallace. But, Courtney respected her too much to call her anything but that, except within earshot.
It’s okay. I’ll have time to pick it out and pay and will go by later to bring it back.
Emma skipped out of the office. She bought a cup of coffee in the lobby cafe before heading down the street to the Spruce Family Christmas Tree Stand.
The stand
, more like its own storefront, had been a staple in the city for as long as Emma could remember. Her parents always bought their tree from the Spruce’s. Emma thought it ironic that a family named Spruce sold Christmas trees! Needless to say, they were always the best trees in town. That was probably why they had been in business for so long.
As Emma sipped on her coffee, she looked for the perfect tree. It had to be at least six feet tall, but not over eight. Symmetrical and full of needles and branches. Her office sponsored angels each year and filled the tree with their wishes.
And, every year, she and her staff would buy everything and more on their wish lists. They also delivered the presents right before Christmas so the children had presents to open on Christmas day.
The whole staff loved helping these sweet angels
each year and truly lived the saying that it was better to give than receive. No one left the delivery sites with a dry eye. It warmed Emma’s heart, especially knowing that her parents had started this tradition when she was younger and she was continuing it on in their memory.
The Christmas season brought Emma a great deal of joy, but it was also mixed in with some sadness ever since her parents had passed away. They all loved Christmas so much and made a special outing just to pick out the tree. She missed them terribly, but was glad for the memories they did have.
"Mrs. Harvey, it looks like you picked the best tree out of the bunch again this year. How do you do it? Teddie smiled and looked so proudly at one of their repeat customers.
What time would you like this beauty delivered?"
Mrs. Harvey beamed, seven would be great. If that works for you?
Of course, it does. And, thank you again.
Teddie began to step back to help another customers. She failed to notice Emma right behind her. Teddie turned and ran right into Emma’s coffee cup, causing it to spill all over Emma’s coat and blouse.
"Oh my gosh! I am so sorry! I didn’t see you. Please let me help you with that." Teddie furiously grabbed some paper towels.
Great! I’m going to have to change. I have a meeting in half an hour!
Emma was upset that she was going to have to cut her tree shopping short.
I feel terrible! Please let me at least offer to pay for your dry cleaning.
Teddie felt even worse now, knowing she had really interrupted Emma’s day and caused her to change plans.
No, that’s okay. I just have to go and change. I’ll be back to pick out a tree later.
Emma finally locked eyes with Teddie and immediately felt something familiar, but couldn’t put her finger on it.
Please, I really do feel bad about your blouse. It was totally my fault.
Emma began to hurry back to her office and said, "it’s okay. I’ll be back and
