      The nine stories included in this collection all appeared on The Word Count Podcast in 2018. This wonderful podcast is hosted by R.B. Wood, a fellow writer who I am proud and honoured to call a friend. I first wrote a story for his podcast in 2016, and it was the first flash fiction story I ever wrote. Since then, it seems I can't stop writing flash.

      Writing for the podcast has kept me going as a writer even when I think I'm in a slump, and even when I feel like I can't come up with any ideas worth writing. No matter what, R.B. Wood's story prompts always pulls me through. The Word Count Podcast is a fabulous and friendly creative outlet, I get to rub (audio) shoulders with some terrific writers, and I keep getting a kick of writer's high every time I submit a story.

      The only thing Mabel is grateful for in this whole messy business of being turned into a dog, is that she turned into a dog that’s big enough to break out of the preschool’s backyard. She’s looked at herself in the mirror, and near as she can figure, she’s some kind of rottweiler-lab mix, with a wrinkled forehead that gives her a permanently worried expression.

      What if I was a toy poodle? she says to the kids while pushing on the three wobbly fence-boards. The kids laugh, though it mostly comes out as howls and barks since the kids are now a bewildering mix of puppies, toddling around on wobbly legs with wagging tails.
