About this ebook

Coming home, it's such a joyous occasion... unless nobody remembers you. And you can't find your family. And your office is gone. Walter was away for many years, but he never expected this. His explanation for where he was all that time isn't helping either, and his friendly taxi driver isn't sure what to do with him.

Please note: This is a short story of approximately 1,860 words. It is a vignette told from the perspective of the taxi driver. This story will leave you with unanswered questions, just as drivers never learn the full stories of their passengers. If you prefer to read stories with tidy endings, this story may not suit your tastes.

Donovan glanced again in the rearview mirror of his taxi, eyeing the man in the back seat. This passenger was shaping up to be one of his stranger fares. The middle-aged taxi driver had been heading back to town after a long and lucrative run to a beach resort when he first caught sight of the man waving him down. His new passenger had been standing with three suitcases at the edge of the pavement, just before the narrow road turned inland after following the coast. He immediately noticed the man's outdated clothes and old-fashioned luggage. The man's clothes weren't just outdated, they looked like he'd been sleeping in them.
