So, You Hate Your Job
I get it. I’ve been there, too… and it really freaking sucks, doesn’t it?
This book is for people stuck in cubicle hell, the service industry, retail, or pretty much any job they aren’t happy with.
If you train raptors for a living and hate it, then this book is for you. (Although, yeah, you’re kind of a jerk because honestly, that’s my dream job.)
In each of the subsequent chapters, you’ll learn strategies to help you get through your crappy workday without stapling something to someone’s head.
Whether you’re a barista, a server, an administrative assistant, or a middle manager, you’re in the right place. No matter what industry you’re in, when your job is making you miserable, the effects can pile up.
I’m here to help you make your workday easier, less stressful, and less emotionally draining.
But before we continue, let’s talk about what this book is not. This book is not a:
Career guide
Too-long blog post about the powers of positive thinking
Lecture about toughening up and facing the real world
How-to guide for going from day job to dream job
This book isn’t going to ask you to change your feelings about your job. Sure, we’ll talk about mindset, but the techniques in the following chapters are more concrete.
What We’re Going to Do Here
In this book, I want to help you get through your workday. No more, no less.
You’re going to learn ways that you can make your day-to-day suck less. You’ll get fast, easy, actionable strategies to make your life better.
There are plenty of great career guides out there, but if you’re reading this, you’re probably just trying to keep your head above water. This book can help you break through your stress and reclaim some of the emotional energy that your day job is robbing you of.
If you’re already creating a better future for yourself by going to school, sharpening your skills, or putting out applications, then that’s awesome. But that doesn’t make you immune to daily stressors.
This is a book that’s going to help you get through a crappy job on a day-to-day basis. Think of it as your mini-survival-guide.
If your job currently makes you want to rip out your hair and/or staple something to someone’s head, then this book is here to help you get through the day with a shred of sanity left.
What IS a Day Job?
Just to be clear, a day job
is anything that isn’t your dream job.
If you’re spending hours on work that you don’t believe is your true calling, then you’re working a day job.
Even if you’re working within your industry of choice, you could still be working a day job if you see your
