Author’s note:
When we left Devin and Bobbie Skye, he was finally free of the realm in which he had been held a prisoner for twenty plus years.
However, Allora had escaped.
As it turned out, she went to London and partnered with her long-time lover, the ancient vampire, Ramon.
Thus, our story begins:
~ Prologue ~
Hawkeye, Alpha Shifter of the Wellsly Pack!
I DON’T LIKE COMPLICATIONS.
FOR me, it has always been simple. You either are, or you aren’t on the right side. The right side? With me. If you aren’t, I tend to snarl and hold you outside the safety zone.
I guess I see things in black and white.
My beautiful little sister, Dalia, used to try and color the world for me, but because of him, my sister is gone. Because of him, my world is less white, and blacker than ever. Justice will never bring her back, so instead, I will have my revenge.
I will never understand how she came to fall in love with a bloodsucking, human killing vampire, but she did. She once told me he was wisdom, sophistication, and beauty all wrapped up into one person. Her vision was fogged. I know now, she was under a witch’s spell. I know now, she never had a choice.
Back then, I didn’t know.
I told her he was no more than an ancient vampire, wicked and sly. I told her he was a savage, ruthless killer. I told her he had cunning, not wisdom.
So she left the security and safety of our home in the Highlands of Scotland. She left my pack.
She left my protection and went to him.
She told me he loved her. She believed his lies. At least, I thought that was the case. I didn’t realize then that he had forced a witch to spell her.
I simply thought her blinded by infatuation. She was so young. He was her first, and then her only. She couldn’t see he didn’t love her. How could he love her when he wanted her to take part in an experiment that would never bode well for a wolf Shifter.
She said he wanted her to be a hybrid because it would make her stronger than all vampires and Shifters alike.
I asked why she would want that. She shrugged. She said it would be a good thing to be powerful and protect humans. Ramon was an ancient, one of Dracula’s original creations. He had lived far too long and I should have put him down right then, even knowing she would hate me for doing it.
She couldn’t see that all he wanted was to use her. I even told her he was another’s lover. I told her that he and Allora had been lovers off and on for centuries and Allora would always come before any other female he ever took to his bed.
Dalia never believed me. She died not knowing what a craven, ugly, soulless beast Ramon really was.
I discovered too late that he was about to administer the serum to make her a hybrid. My intel was that it wasn’t quite perfected, and I assumed he wouldn’t use it until it was. I was hoping for that time, time to show her what he was, and make her come back to me and the pack.
I had heard that Ramon had convinced various immortal werewolves to take part in his experiment. He promised them power and wealth.
My sister was the first immortal Shifter to agree to take what he told her was the perfected serum.
Too late, the ugliest two words I have ever known. Too late, I arrived to free her… but Ramon had already injected her. He must have known almost immediately that his serum had gone awry. He left her alone to suffer her pitiful end.
He knew and left her to suffer alone.
He knew she would die an agonizing death, and he left her to it, all by herself. Our connection, our blood link told me something was wrong and I went immediately, using magic to get to her, magic I haven’t used in a very long time.
For that—for leaving her alone to writhe in agony, I will torture and torment him. For all the rest, I will make him beg for death. I vow this, knowing that capturing and killing an ancient is near impossible, but I will find a way.
There are mortal members of my pack, but the immortal Shifters, like myself, always look out for our brothers and sisters. We are a tight-knit and successful pack. How she got past us in the early days to meet with Ramon is something I will never know.
The imperfect serum Ramon was trying to establish was fatal, even to an immortal.
I was helpless as I watched my sister struggle in misery of the worst kind, for hours and hours.
She screamed as her veins popped out of her skin, as her jaw extended, as her fangs, too enlarged for her mouth, broke out of her gums.
Blood poured out of her nose, her eyes, and her mouth before the serum Ramon had injected her with allowed her to die.
I adored my younger sister. We were the last of my family. I prayed for her quick end. That feeling is something I shall never forget.
When I think of how it was my fault that Dalia met Ramon, that it was I who invited him into our home for a peace conference, it drives me near insane with guilt.
I had thought we could work out a treaty, as Lycans and vampires were at each other’s throats, literally, and taking down too many humans in the process. I thought I could use reason with him, until I actually looked into his eyes.
His humanity was nowhere to be found. He had turned it off centuries ago, and I realized in that moment, he could not retrieve a soul that was no longer there.
That was when she first saw him—in our home. I didn’t like the way he looked at her and sent her out of the room immediately.
She gave me hell for that later, and I remember how she wagged her finger in my face. I laughed it off. I never realized she was already taken with him and meant to meet him.
She was pure innocence. She was light, she was bubbling joy, and she knew just how to open me up and make me smile. She was mine to protect and I failed.
My pack and I have sworn vengeance against Ramon and his clan of ancients. They are everything that is wicked and perverse. We learned recently Ramon is trying to find a way to walk in daylight because of his need to infiltrate and dominate the human race.
Thus far, those attempts have failed.
I have no great love of humans.
They are rash. They commit atrocities in the name of religion, for power, and for money. They divide themselves up into sects and are intolerant of opposing sects. They are capable of great kindness and just as capable of great cruelty, but all we, Shifters and Lycans, really want is to live in quiet harmony and peace—in secrecy, as humans would not tolerate us should they discover we exist. There are innocents among the humans and they don’t deserve what Ramon is planning.
The immortals of my pack and I have seen enough of war.
My original pack is the last of its kind from our realm, which was destroyed by those who wanted more than what they had. We tried to save our realm, but again, those words come into play. It was all too little too late.
When the ‘humans’ of our world, known as ‘glams’, destroyed each other, the Lycans went to war with the ruling demons. Not all the demons wanted war, but those who did had the numbers, the magic, and the ruthlessness that, in the end, diminished their kind.
Mayla, a female demon, saw that our realm was disintegrating. She was the one who finally went to the remaining Lycan families and opened portals for them to the realms of their choice.
My father had studied many realms and for some reason decided he would, along with our pack, take the portal to the Human Realm.
It was on the day we were nearly ready to leave when my father sent me to retrieve a sacred Lycan Hallow from our barn. He told me to take Dalia with me.
I know now, because he was a Lycan Seer, that he must have had a vision and knew what was about to happen.
My parents were dragged out of their home by four demon soldiers and beheaded for treason against their despot leader.
We found their bodies, my sister and I.
My beloved godmother, a prominent witch, had been with my parents during the attack. She lived only long enough to say good-bye to us and transfer her potent magic to me.
Our pack had been decimated in the war. We didn’t have enough of us to go into battle.
Mayla arrived and grieved with us for a time before she tried to get us through the portal.
I can still see her face, drawn in sorrow, as she said, I am sorry. I could not save them. I am now accused of treason as well and must go with you.
She took Dalia’s hand and dragged her up off the cold ground and hugged her close. Forgive me, we must go now before they return for us. They are searching for us as we speak.
She had already sent what was left of my pack through to the human world and turned to Dalia and me.
Mayla, even in her demon form, was a thing of loveliness. Her scales were iridescent green. Her eyes warm and sparkling pools of green. I asked her how she would hide among the humans, and she smiled and became one right before my eyes.
There, you don’t have to worry about me. Take your sister and hurry. I will follow,
she answered.
I don’t know how we left our parents and my godmother lying there… but we did. I had to drag Dalia away, and I suppose the need to protect her governed me.
Our pack had to be protected. We were the last of our kind.
That was two hundred years ago.
We all heard them at the door of our home as we jumped into the portal and Mayla hurriedly closed it once we were on the other side.
Mayla stayed with us for a very long time. She was a beloved member of the pack. We finally settled in the Highlands of Scotland.
She saw us settled and decided she needed to travel the world, but she would always come home every few years for a visit.
We prospered and our pack of twenty grew. Many mortal Shifters and werewolves joined us, and we lived peacefully until the last two years when Ramon began his experiments!
Lycans have a great sense of smell. It didn’t take long for others from our realm to find us and join our pack. We gathered, and under my leadership have lived in secrecy and peace among the humans.
The ancient vamps want to change all that.
I will never allow that to happen. I won’t stand by and allow the vampires to succeed in their plans for human domination. I made my opinions known and have taken a stand, thus, even if Ramon had not murdered my sister with his experiment, we would be mortal enemies.
Of course, I will kill Ramon, but I don’t just want to kill him. I want him to know I am coming for him. I want him tormented at the notion of how long I will keep him alive to suffer what my sister suffered. I am an Alpha empowered with both Light and Dark Magic, transferred to me from my godmother, so yes, I have the ability to succeed.
He has a deadly warlock some call the Dark Wizard. His name is Beyland.
I believe Beyland no longer is loyal to Ramon, but something keeps him there helping him. I shall have to separate the two to get at Ramon. Being immortal means I can bide my time.
The redhead, Bobbie Skye, a formidable witch, is an ally, as she has battled Allora to save her vampire mate.
Still, I trust no one. She and her vampire mate, Devin, have promised to work with me, but will they?
Bobbie Skye intrigued me. She is a beauty, and had she not been spoken for, I might have enjoyed getting to… know her better.
I have had many beautiful lovers, yet find a need still unfulfilled. I have never found my intended mate.
Now, I haven’t time for romance—and as already noted, Bobbie Skye belongs to another. I don’t take what belongs to another man, but still, I have thought it might be fun to flirt with her and annoy her vampire mate.
We have recently taken up quarters in London. Why? Because Ramon and Allora are there.
That was where I first saw her.
A vampire slayer with golden hair and aqua eyes. Fierce, with a killer body, and everything inside of me burned.

Raema MacGowen
LONDON’S NIGHTBOMB CLUB WAS ALIVE with music.
I love to dance. I don’t even need a partner. As the music rocks my soul, I get out there and dance with everything I’ve got. Not tonight.
Tonight, another purpose takes precedence.
I studied the crowded dance floor. No one on the floor looked able to do more than bump and grind, and there was a whole lotta that going on.
I didn’t come here for fun.
I gave Mayla a nod.
She was the model shaped beauty with the long hair. This week, it’s purple. She likes to mix it up. Mayla stands in four inch heels, making her close to six feet tall. She is svelte and elegant. Even in my heeled boots, I’m no more than five foot seven, so yeah, she towers over me. It fits with her bossiness. Man, is she ever bossy. I’m originally from New York and used to attitude, but Mayla has it in spades.
She was across the floor, chatting up a friendly demon. He looked my way. She gave me a wink. Ordinarily, I’m not keen on working with demons, Mayla being the exception. Most of them always have an angle, but Mayla seemed to think this one was okay. I saw her pass him a hundred bucks. Ah, so,
