About this ebook

The winds of change... Cassidy Byrne has always had an affinity for nature. The wind and the animals give her a sense of tranquility. She lives a quiet life with her adopted daughter, avoiding other people as much as possible. Her peaceful existence suddenly shatters in one day, leaving her reeling and wondering if she is strong enough to face all the changes that are about to happen.

Malachi, Krill, and Surne—three men from three different worlds find their mate in one very special woman. The question is—will she accept them? Each man will do whatever it takes to protect Cassidy, but will it be enough?

Cassidy searches for a way to deal with the sudden changes and emotional overload. She accepts that some things in life may be out of her control, but that doesn't mean she can't resist it—or at least pretend to for a little while. Can the three men convince Cassidy that life is about the journey and that every day can be an adventure if she opens her heart and accepts them?

    Chapter One

The Irish Sea was angry today. Cassidy Byrne stood on the cliffs looking out at the water. Cassidy visited there when she needed time to think.

She glanced over her shoulder and smiled at the little bungalow she’d purchased twenty years ago, when she’d found a child afloat in the Irish Sea. The little girl, her Nessa, had been six years old and abused badly.

With the help of her adopted parents, Cassidy had gained guardianship for the child, since no one had claimed her. After years of therapy, the understanding of being lost, and all the love Cassidy could give her, Nessa was now a mother of her own.

The little giggles of her twin granddaughters always brought a smile to her face. Even the king of the Mer people, her father, Hugh, couldn’t help but melt when one of the them crawled up onto his lap and slapped him with their dirty little hands, hugging him their way.

She glanced once more out at the ocean, frowning. Even though Cassidy wasn’t another species like her adopted parents she still had certain gifts, and one right now one was screaming at her. For the past two months, her parents had demanded Nessa and Cassidy stay below in their water home, that something had happened on land. She shivered remembering the worm things her father had found in her.

To the left, Cassidy could still see the wreckage of the burnt-out warehouse. Yes, it would seem, her parents’ people weren’t the only other species on Earth. Cassidy had once more started remembering the details of what had happened to her. In this recent event, over twenty women had been killed, giving birth to alien creatures. The alien things that had raped and hurt them.

But this wasn’t what was coming. No, for some reason she knew it had to do with Nessa, and each time she looked at her daughter now, tears would form. She was going to lose her to someone, but she didn’t know who.

Ma, you okay? Nessa asked, coming up to stand next to her while her adopted mother, Cara took the other side.

I’m fine, Cassidy said, reaching over and hugging Nessa’s daughter. Why don’t you start the potatoes for me. I need to speak with your Grams for a second.

Nessa shook her head. I know this is about me. Tell me.

Cara reached over and squeezed her shoulder. Your mother sees strangers coming, and they’re looking for you Nessa.

That’s why you made us all come back up here, isn’t it? Nessa asked, frowning.

Your family, your blood family is searching for you. Not the ones that hurt you, baby, but your birth mother. Cassidy looked out at the water. I can feel her hurt, anger that you were taken from her. She was a teenager when she had you. I can tell you that. Cassidy glanced down at Nessa. She’s never stopped looking for you, Nessa, and it would seem now is the time for you to meet your family.

I have a family right here. Nessa wrapped her arms around her and hugged her tight. You’re my momma, she said. You might not be blood, but you will always fill a big part of my heart.

Just like my momma was to me, Cassidy said, reaching back and taking her mom’s hand.

Okay, are you three done with all the mushy stuff because I could really use some help with these two little blades, her father said behind them, holding onto the two little hellions. Yes, at age three, her grandbabies were all over the place, and that included her father.

Shauna tugged on her father’s white hair and Mona kept slapping him on the cheek, giggling away.

Oh my, she laughed, taking Mona and hugging her tight. Are you being a bad little blade? She placed kisses all over the little girl’s face. So going to miss you, she whispered.

We’re not going anywhere, Nessa growled as her husband Seth came walking out to greet them.

Wow, is it that late? She looked down at her watch. Here, take your other little one, while I start dinner.

No, Momma, we’re taking all of you out to eat, Sean said as he took Mona and threw her up in the air. I got the promotion. It’s time to celebrate.

The strong arm of her father wrapped around her after shaking Sean’s hand. Congrats, I know how much you have worked for this. When do you leave? her father asked.

We don’t. I can work anywhere with this new job, and Nessa wanted to stay near all of you. Sean looked at her. You mean the world to my wife. We’re not going anywhere without you, he growled.

Her eyes filled with tears. Her son was a wolf and alpha for the small population here. Thank you, she said moving toward her home. Where are we going? Do I need to change?

Shauna jumped into a big puddle.

Well, it looks like someone is going to have to be changed, Cassidy said.

Nessa moaned and grabbed her little girl. I swear I go through more clothes with this one.

I know another someone else who did the same when she was small, Cassidy said.

I’ll always love mud holes, Cassidy said.

    Nessa nodded.

Faith paced back and forth, while keeping her eye on the large window near the private tables where Gordon spoke to Malachi, who had traveled all the way from Galway to speak with the alpha wolf, Sean Mutter, her son-in-law.

Her daughter was married to a wolf and had twin little girls. She was a grandma again. Her other daughter Chance had her little girl two weeks ago. A healthy wolf shifter, and the cutest thing in the world.

She sighed. They had been so busy finding those creatures here on Earth, Faith had waited, making sure every last one of them here was dead before they headed anywhere near her daughter.

Stop pacing and come over here, Jake grumbled, pulling Faith down next to them. Are you ready to meet the woman who saved your little girl? Jake asked.

What if she doesn’t want anything to do with us? Faith looked up into Jake’s eyes as he placed his hand over the swell of her belly.

If she is anything like her mother, she’ll love you. If we have to stay here in town for a few years, we’ll do it. You know Xfra will take us back if you need to see your friends.

Where is Xfra, anyway? Faith asked, frowning and looking around.

He thinks he found a place we can buy here in town and went to check it out. But don’t worry. He’ll be here when they arrive. Jake placed a kiss on her cheek.

I still can’t believe there are Mer people. When Xfra told us, I thought for sure he was joking, and to think my little girls’ grandfather and grandmother are their king and queen. Faith shook her head as Alexander and Maria sat down across from them, Maria refusing to stay at home when she knew Faith was a basket case.

Even I couldn’t believe it, and my father, who is old, didn’t know. Alexander glanced toward where his father was speaking with the man called Malachi and Gordon.

I’m surprised your mom and dad came, too. What’s up with that? Faith leaned over and whispered.

We can hear you, dear. Kat came over and patted her arm. Of course we are going to come with you. You are important to Maria and part of our family. Plus, I think my husband is a little annoyed he didn’t know about King Byrne before. He’s making sure to meet him now while he can.

In other words, my father is wanting to see what this king is up to and whether he is any threat, Alexander said.

Jake stiffened, and she looked up to see a man standing in their private room. His gaze met hers, and Faith knew this was the king they had been speaking of. He had white hair down to his waist and was built like her Gordon. But he had the bluest eyes she had ever seen.

She rose, as did Jake, and then Xfra appeared and went to the king with his hand out. Faith never would get used to his appearing and disappearing. King Byrne, it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Xfra, and these are my mates, Gordon and Jake Nella, and our female, Faith, mother to…

Faith reached up and slapped her hand over her mate’s mouth. Wynter’s mother, behave. Faith glared at her man. I’m sorry for my mate’s claim. I’m Faith Bliss, she said, holding her hand out.

The man, king of the Mer-people stared at her for a few seconds before pulling her into his arms and hugging her. "Welcome to our family, Faith. This will be very difficult for all of you, especially you and my daughter. My family will be
