      Chapter 1

      At a small daycare , children were outside running around and laughing as they played with one another, their teacher watching them with a smile on her face. A little girl with short brown hair in pigtails left the large group of kids and went over to a lone redheaded girl drawing with chalk on the black asphalt. She smiled down at the redhead who looked up at her with surprise.

      Riley, we're playing hide and seek! Come play with us! she said happily.

      Thanks, Emma but I don't want to play right now... the girl told her in a quiet voice.

      Don't be like that! Let's go play! The brunette grabbed the redhead's chalky hands, pulled her up from the ground and pulled her over to the group of kids who were waiting for her. Riley's going to play with us!

      Everyone nodded and they began to decide who would be it. After a game of rock, paper, scissors, the finder was the brunette. The kids dispersed, hiding behind trees, under the tables and even behind their teacher who tried her hardest not to laugh. The redheaded girl hid in the thick bushes, sitting with her legs hugged up against her chest. She could hear the other kids laughing as they were found and the number of hiders was getting less and less. Finally, someone said I think we found everyone!

      Everyone but me... the girl whispered, playing with the shards of grass under her.

      Suddenly, the thicket parted, surprising the redhead as she stared up at the smiling face of the brunette who held her hand out to her. I found you, Riley! Come on out!

      Her heart began to race and her cheeks turned red but she smiled, taking the other girl's hand. She was pulled from her spot by the smiling brunette back to the other children but she didn't even notice them. All she could see was that bright smile and feel the warm hand clutching hers.

      IT WAS A BRIGHT TUESDAY morning. Sunlight streamed through the fluttery white curtains of the glass doors leading out to the small veranda of twenty-six-year-old Riley Fox's master bedroom. The bright rays shined on her eyes and she groaned, rolling onto her side, pulling her blanket over her head. The door to her bedroom opened and a calm young woman in a maid outfit entered the room. She went to the curtains and opened them, letting the room illuminate with sunshine. Glancing over to the woman curled up under her covers, she went over to the bed and gently tapped
