    Prologue

Highlands of Scotland - 1413 AD

The beast must be stopped. His whole clan is infested with evil. I must help release those trapped by their lies and deceit. The Clan chief stood before the coven of witches and begged or their help. He knew two wrongs didn't make right but knowing his niece and only living heir had been trapped within the MacRae Castle for months he chose to take drastic measures.

We 'ave the beast ye seek, m'laird, the oldest witch proclaimed. Do ye still wish to go through with this? It cannae be undone, m'laird.

Aye, where is this beast of a man? His blood will run this night.

Nay, m'laird. Ye cannae kill him. For this spell to work his body must remain whole. I must warn ye, be careful what ye wish fer.

Another of the coven stepped forward and gazed into fire and smoke. Her white hair glowed in the light of the blaze. Once this is done, only a Pure One may set him free. The blood of a Pure One in the light of a full moon shall release the beast from slumber. ‘Tis the only way.

The older witch bowed towards the white haired one. Our seer 'as spoken. It shall be done. She turned back towards the clan chief. Our payment, m'laird?

Aye, here 'tis as agreed. He reached for a pouch fastened to his side and tossed it towards the old woman. He will suffer as I 'ave suffered knowing that his family will be destroyed. I will take what has been taken from me.

The old witch smiled and turned towards a small shelter beyond the fire. Bring forth the beast so he may pay for his crimes and be forever with his dark lord.

The door to the shelter opened and three large Highlanders emerged dragging behind them another man shackled in silver chains. The smell of burning flesh was strong in the air. The three men struggled with the fourth to bring him before the fire and the coven.

Release me now and I may make yer death a swift one, witch. Tearloch MacRae struggled against his bindings but the silver had made him weak and burned into his skin. His black hair was a tangled mess, caked with dirt and blood, falling past his shoulders. He was stripped of all weapons and left with only his kilt to cover his body. His eyes blazed red with the blood lust he felt for being in this situation and for the men that held him.

Ye are in no position to be ordering us aboot, beast. The seer noticed that the clan chief had disappeared into the shadows not wanting to be seen by this man. Ye will be punished for yer crimes against God and nature.

More witches began to emerge from the surrounding woods. They began to chant in a language Tearloch did not understand. His body became stiff and he could not move.

Who are ye to be talking about God? The dark magic ye wield comes from the devil himself. Release me, now! But his demand landed on deaf ears. A strange sensation began in his feet and traveled up his body.

The seer walked up to him and spoke low so only he could hear. Know this, demon. As ye stand afore us so shall yer clan fall. Without ye to guide them, they shall be destroyed. Every. Last. One. Only a Pure One shall release ye. One of pure heart and pure soul. Only one that can see beyond yer demon heart.

Tearloch struggled against now invisible bonds yet he was completely immobile. Everything grew darker, the chanting became louder almost deafening and he let out a scream that was ripped from his soul and echoed to through the forest and beyond.

The old witch raised her hand and the coven grew silent. She stared at the stone statue that stood before her. Tis done sisters. He shall be encased in stone until a Pure One releases him.

"If a Pure One releases him. If they cannae find him they cannae release him. He shall be put in a place no one will look for him, especially a Pure One."

A young witch that had recently joined the coven stepped forward as the others disappeared into the shadows of the trees. Wise one, forgive me, she said bending low in respect. The laird has left. Shall we follow him?

Nay, he isnae a concern anymore. He shall learn soon enough that everyone suffers and there isnae any justice for what he bargained for.

The clan chief rode hard for the MacRae castle hidden deep within the highland mountains and mist. He knew of its location by having several trusted men follow several of the monsters nearly a sennight ago. His niece would soon be free to come home. No longer would she be enslaved by the evil within the castle walls.

As he came upon the castle, he saw his clan already inside and torching everything and everyone in sight. Nay, they must stop, he spoke aloud. He rode at break neck speed across the bridge and through the gates. Not waiting for his mount to come to a full stop he jumped off and ran towards his first in command standing in the center of the bailey.

M'laird, the man spoke, we have secured the castle and are now cleansing it of all evil. Every man, woman, and child.

Nay, tisnae what I wanted. I just wanted my sweet Fiona. My niece. Where is she? She was supposed to be found and taken from here before the massacre.

The captain spoke solemnly, "We havnae found her yet, m'laird.
