    Chapter One

    Rest In Praise

It is possible to get to a point in your life where you get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Even though you know a place exists where you can have some peace and enjoy life, you consistently fail to get to that place. That’s where I found myself. I was supposed to be a partaker of the blessings in Christ yet I appeared to be a slave to the suffering Christ had nailed to the cross.

The circumstances of my life didn’t seem to match up with what I had come to believe about God and the inheritance reserved for His precious children. I got to the brink of questioning the infallibility of the Gospel on a number of occasions as a result. But each time I got to the point of abandoning the Gospel, I realized the futility of going down that path. By the grace of God I remained a believer and held on in spite of failing to experience the manifestation of God’s promises.

I made up my mind I was going to believe God’s Word like a child and follow it like sheep no matter what. I wanted to experience this rest and live without the stress that had become part of my life due to my circumstances. I decided I wanted to go through a day with a smile and without a care in the world because all my ‘cares’ were taken care of. The good news is that there is indeed such a rest.

    Hebrews 4:9, 11

There remains a rest for the people of God

Let us therefore be diligent to enter into that rest….

Christ invites people who are ‘heavy laden’ to come find rest in Him so I decided I was going to experience this rest. If you find yourself ‘overburdened’, with any issue Christ can give you rest too.

    Mathew 11:28

Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden

And I will give you rest

Don’t let the devil weigh you down with guilt because of a sin committed in your past life. And don’t shy away from Christ because of past transgressions. Your acceptance of Christ also symbolized your acceptance of His offer to wipe away all your sins. You can no longer be judged on past sins because there is no record of them.

Don’t condemn yourself to ‘death’ over past transgressions. Christ has already paid the price for all your sins. The only thing a person can’t be forgiven for is the rejection of Christ Jesus and His gift of salvation - the UNPARDONABLE SIN (Hebrews 10:26-29). Everything else will be forgiven you, if you confess and repent.

    1 John 1:9

    If we confess our sins

He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins…

Your burden may not be the result of a sin you committed, but from challenging circumstances emanating from inadequate finances, poor health, childlessness, relationship issues, ministry challenges, generational curses etc. Christ literally implores us to cast all our burdens on Him. He came to help imperfect people like you and I. Whatever the nature of the burden, know that God can give your rest from it. There is no challenge or short coming He’s never seen or heard before; He’s seen it all.

    Praise Your Way To Rest

There are times when it becomes difficult to pray because you can’t even find the words with which to pray. There are other occasions where you may have the words but may not know how to put them together. Then there are the occasions when you don’t feel like praying because of the state in which you find yourself. On all such occasions I find that praise is able to ‘break the ice’ and get a person praying again.

The beauty about praise is the peace it births in the soul and the rest it provides. It causes circumstances to line up with the Word of God you declare in your praise. Praise is offered for what God has done; therefore it leaves you with a sense of your expectation having been met. Therefore when you offer praise in the time of adversity, it generates expectation of a favourable conclusion in your favour.  Such an expectation can only give rest and not breed fear.

The social and economic upheavals taking place in almost every corner of the world shouldn’t bother you. The eyes of the LORD are moving to and fro on the earth watching over His anointed to protect and preserve them. Hallelujah. There is no reason to be afraid.

The devil is instigating a lot of trouble because he can sense the end is near for him. Consequently he’s trying to take as many people as he can down with him. That is why he is unleashing all the trouble he can before his time runs out. But no matter how hard he tries, you are hidden in Christ and at rest in God. You will not be overwhelmed by any of his schemes. You are well secured in Christ Jesus. Praise God.

    Affirm Your Rest With Scripture

Affirm the rest you have in Christ with Scripture. There are several verses of scripture you can use to base your praise on. One of my favourite ‘praise Scriptures’ is found in Psalm 91.

    Psalm 91

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High

Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty

I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and fortress; my God in Him I will trust
