A FEW WORDS ABOUT DAVID BOWIE
Famous as the pop chameleon
for his ever changing sound and appearances, David Robert Jones later known by his stage name David Bowie, was in the realm of music for five decade. Bowie is being regarded as one of the world’s best selling musical artist with his innovative style. The induction to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was just another feather to his reinventing musical career.
David Robert Jones’s birth was in London on January 8, 1947. He was attentive towards music in early from his childhood and started playing saxophone when he was just 13. Influence of his half brother Terry exposed him the world of rock and roll music. Though embarked to a musical career in 1963, he had to wait for 5 years for his first hit with the album Space Oddity’. Before that, he hooked up with many groups and some under his own and a number of singles came out that period, but nothing gave the commercial pulling for the young artist. He began his solo career with the new name David Bowie on being confusion with the Davy Jones of the Monkees. After
Space Oddity in 1968, he experimented with his style and tone for a few years and then in 1972, introduced Ziggy Stardust to the pop world, Bowie’s imagining of a doomed rock star. The release of
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars catapulted him to stardom with the flamboyant Ziggy character dressed in wild costume and reddish brown dyed hair. The rejuvenating Bowie transformed the sound radically for the new album
Plastic Soul and then a complete makeover for the US hit album
Young Americans featuring his everlasting single
Fame. Still Bowie’s interest was not just with music, his first title stared film
The Man Who Fell to Earth released in 1976 which was a cult classic. Shifting to Berlin in the following year, the first of his critically acclaimed Berlin Trilogy,
Low was dropped. The minimalist instrumental approach in the
Low was replaced by the ambiguous sounds of rock and pop in the second one
Heroes. The final of trilogy
Lodger" was an ambient mixture of the other two but with Bowie’s special touch with the drum and jazz based rock turned it again a massive hit.
