      Soft, charismatic, her expression captivated his senses. Scott could not help but smile in return. It was an infectious expression, one that filled him with a sense of warmth and joy. The apparent sincerity mixed with her sweet sensual nature were almost too much for him to bear when they were close. Yet, somehow he would not have it any other way.

      I am so happy for you. What’s it like? Alexis leaned in and looked carefully into his eyes in the hopes of seeing his answer there before he spoke.

      Scott smiled to her then said, It’s nice to know that I came from somewhere; that I did not just sprout up from the dirt or something. But...

      But? she asked curiously. Her words, though obviously spoken solely out of curiosity, held a certain purr in them that could not be denied.

      I have a lot of misgivings. He’s supposed to be this wealthy and well-known man. It is impossible to believe that he could not have found me if he had actually looked for me intensely, said Scott. The same misgivings that plagued him before he spoke with Pirouette continued even now. The idea of a man so wealthy that entire nations would be on notice when he visited was one thing. The notion that such a man could not have found his only living relative if he wanted to do so was beyond the boundaries of belief.

      Alexis nodded. True, it is possible that he did not look. Still, there is no guarantee that he would have found you even if he did look. This took place around the time of the war, right?

      He glanced at her briefly then turned away. Yeah, honestly that is the only reason that I give him a pass at all. Things would have been quite chaotic back then, and they probably even reported everyone dead.

      Scott left unvoiced his belief that anyone who gave a damn would have at least had the bodies gene tested to see who they were. It was not possible to get that wrong, though there could have been other reasons that made the situation more difficult.

      She squeezed his hand gently then leaned in further and kissed him on the nose. "I know we aren’t really dating or even actual friends, but if you need someone to talk to..."

      Scott placed his other hand atop hers then nodded. I thank you for that, but I consider you to at least be a friend.

      "Thank you for that," she said cheerfully. Alexis shimmied from side-to-side a little in a manner that seemed entirely subconscious.

      Her every little movement exuded an innocent form of sensuality that she was not even entirely aware of most of the time. Over the course of time, as they grew closer, she seemed to do it more often as well. Scott tried not to be enraptured by the spell cast by those sweet movements, but even the ADF training regimen he had undergone before he became a hunter could not completely prepare him for such a thing. There was one way to fight back, however. Humor, or his reasonable approximation of it.

      You’re welcome... he said, but then spoke again after proffering her a lewd smile, ...it would be improper not to be friends with someone with such big breasts.

      Alexis snorted at him then started to laugh. How do you always manage to make me laugh at the stupidest things!
