OSPREY It Ain't So!

About this ebook
The martial arts expert Velma "Jinkies" Rampo has ties to both US and Japanese interests, so she was a sure selection to lead the team investigating a string of sabotage incidents targeting US Military equipment in Okinawa, Japan. The saboteur's target: The MV-22 OSPREY transport vehicle, a VTOL delivery system for Marine Corp units.
High command believes the ruthless organization Skorpion is tied to the incidents. Jinkies and her KiFoe operatives are tasked to identify the culprit or culprits and take action. However, the list of suspects includes a protesting dissident from the States, local business owners who hate the noise polluting OSPREY, and even personnel on base itself who might have hidden secrets of their own. The Kinetic Force operatives have their work cut out for them . . . and lives are hanging in the balance.
"OSPREY It Ain't So!" is a novella length adventure told in the spirit of 1980s military action comics and novels, tackling the efforts of a team of specialists struggling to stop a ruthless terrorist organization from destroying democracy. At 18k words long, it offers plenty of characterization, local color, and thrilling action to satisfy fans of Larry Hama and David Morrell.
Although a part of the Kinetic Force line of military action thrillers, "OSPREY It Ain't So!" is a stand-alone adventure. It ties into the overarching story, but can be fully appreciated by new readers as well.

OSPREY It Ain't So!
A Kinetic Force Adventure
Daniel R. Robichaud
Dedication
This work is dedicated to Ada and Haz Nakama,
Who introduced me to the wonders to be found on Okinawa.
We Fight at Home and Abroad to Defend These United States . . .
The unit known as KINETIC FORCE is publically acknowledged as the best of the best America has to offer, taking candidates from all branches of the Armed Forces as well as other disciplines, but the work it performs is classified and therefore not yet public record.
In fact, Kinetic Force performs specialized operations for the United States government, guaranteeing freedom and hope for all members of the United Nations in these terrifying days of the twenty first century. Once upon a time, before politics got muddled, the US was considered the world's peace keeper and policeman. Kinetic Force upholds that noble heritage. Their keystone mission is to identify and neutralize threats against these United States and her allies.
At present, Kinetic Force is primary focused on the villainous SKORPION, a ruthless terrorist organization with operations across the globe and dreams of conquest.
Chapter 1
It's a crime, Velma Jinkies
Rampo thought, someone destroying the peace and calm of a little slice of paradise on earth like Okinawa. She did not mean whatever saboteur had infiltrated Air Station Futenma, either. One of that unknown party's targets—an MV-22 OSPREY—had finished ascending into the air for maneuvers right now. It was an obnoxious aircraft designed to strike fear into the hearts of the wildlife as well as give away its approach vector to any enemies who happened to be listening. The drone of its twin whipping blades and Detroit-designed, Mexico-built engines did not belong in the partly cloudy blue skies and seventy-five-degree weather. The unit's matchbox shape did not belong marring the island utopia. If she was being honest, the matchbox shape did not belong in an island dystopia either: The VTOL craft resembled the weird mixture of a beetle and an exotic dancer, whose whirling pasties could rotate from horizontal to vertical in the flash of a GI's sweat-stained bill. Without its presence, Jinkies thought, this place would be tranquil and soothing. With its presence . . . Ugh.
Captain Lee Clegg raised his voice as the ugly craft swung through the air, overhead but not quite nearby, saying Welcome to Air Station Futenma, home of the United States Marine Corp. I'll be your point of contact here on site.
He then offered his name and an extended glad hand to each of them. When he had completed the meet cute part, the Captain whipped a finger around through the air alongside his head. Most of the movers, shakers, and the slackers on this base can find me no sweat. If you need me, you won't have to go far.
The Captain was approaching forty, and his dark hair showed the salt of age and its associated stresses. He had a face that might have been called leathery and which resembled a triangle turned up on one point. He wore no facial hair, but a touch of five o'clock shadow colored his cheeks and chin even though it was not yet three o'clock local time. His slow-paced, steady-ahead accent suggested southwestern US origins, perhaps Arizona or Texas.
One hand atop his cover to avoid its loss due to the helicopter blades' suck zone, Captain Clegg guided them from the helicopter pad where the four of them had arrived. He delivered them to a small building alongside a nearby radio tower. Over here, we can hear ourselves think.
Through the door was a corridor, meeting rooms off to either side. None were in use, so he co-opted the one on the right. Offered them all seats and coffee. Deep Dive and Depth Charge both said sure; .50 Cal asked for water; Jinkies thanked but declined any beverages, doing her best to remain respectful. The Captain himself got them nothing. His aide appeared at an instant and received the short stick of obtaining the beverage requests. Cole was a lieutenant in his late twenties, lean but not starving, with sensitive eyes, ears that stuck out about as far as radar dishes, and a serious face.
After the lieutenant took orders and vanished again, Captain Clegg said, I for one am glad you were able to make it on such short notice.
Then, he cut to the point: So how much have you been made aware of the situation here?
Jinkies said, Someone is wrecking equipment. We are here to identify who and to see what ties they have to global terror acts.
Your MPs have so far been unsuccessful in their investigations,
.50 Cal said. He was a massive African American, almost a full foot-and-a-half taller than Jinkies' five feet and two inches. While her lithe body plan reflected her martial arts mastery, .50 Cal was built like a football player. Not the sleek quarterback, either. He was one of the players whose sole purpose was to crush the enemy line into the turf, a human tank. His muscles were a necessity due to his MOS¹ as a heavy machine gunner. However, in stark contrast to the mass of his body, his voice was gentle. Almost musical. No one has mentioned if you suspect Skorpion is behind the attacks.
Deep Dive and Depth Charge remained mum. All the details Earl had disclosed were on the table. They were both believers in keeping quiet during briefings when there was nothing
