    Chapter 1

I was just another one on his list of sighing girls, I couldn't deny it, even though it wasn't so official. The aerobic sessions finished and Royce Van Ewen came inside with his Jiu-jitsu students to use the room. The warm-up started with some hits on the punching bag, stretching legs open on the floor and jumping with kicks. ¿Do you remember young Van Damme? Well, he didn't fall behind and his last name reminded one of the actor's.

His body, full of defined and well-formed muscles on every inch, and his physical abilities and skills left the girls completely amazed, who after an intense exercise session, while being still sweaty, postponed for a few more minutes going to the showers. They literally stayed glued to the glass, drooling, with huge eyes and all because of that man.

It was way better for me, I didn't have to wait in line, I quickly went in and left. You just can't imagine how big the flow of people coming to the aerobic sessions was, a lot more than other gyms on the city. It didn't take me long to notice why: Royce was a powerful advertising claim that the owner managed to spot from the beginning. All the aerobic sessions matched with his training sessions.

Damn! That guy is unattainable, Alexa. My friend Brenda said, still next to the large window, watching him.

Aren't you going to shower? I asked, looking at the clock, and also looking at Royce with his students.

No... I'll do it at home. Have you seen what he does? I have never seen a guy like that before...

Have you thought about what he must be thinking about us? Here, staring at him... like idiots! I exclaimed, a little angry.

I don’t care! He’s the weird one... Do you know what the other girls say about him? She asked, while taking her bag and walking with me towards the door of the Golden Sport Gym.

No idea! I answered, eating an energy bar. We were about to cross the street.

They say he’s a piece of ice. He never smiles and he doesn’t even pay attention to the prettiest girls of Golden Sport.

We’ll he might have a girlfriend. I said, looking for a reasonable explanation.

He lives alone, Alexa, in a small apartment and he doesn’t interact with anyone. Brenda commented.

Maybe he’s a psychokiller, you better take care, hahaha. We were getting close to my house.

Noo, that guy knows half of the girls in this small town undress him with their eyes. I think he’s just a little conceited.

Then why do you stare at him so much? I asked, rising my eyebrows and taking out my keys to open the door and enter.

And why not? It’s a pleasure to look at him, he seems out of a movie... When he does push-ups on the floor and gets ready for his next fight...

He’s a fighter? I asked, already inside my apartment.

Yes, he has participated in 39 tournaments for different martial arts, with only two losses by points. He’s a machine. My friend said with exaltation.

Well! You’ve really studied him! I added while putting some clothes in the washing machine.

I don’t mind admitting it. This Saturday he has a fight. Do you want to come? I was surprised when I heard her. How severe was my friend’s obsession?!

I hate that kind of violent shows! Are you losing your mind, Brenda?

Hahaha, it’s fine I'll go by myself. She answered, pulling a face while still staring at me.

Brenda! Stop trying to make me feel guilty. I’m not going... Don’t you know I can’t stand blood and... those kind of things?

There’ll be no blood! Jiu-jitsu has rules, it’s organized by the judo federation! I assure the only things you’ll see are headlocks and fighting on the floor, but hardly any hits.

Oh! Well, the truth is I don’t really know a lot about these things. I said, doubtful, taking the pizza out of the oven.

I don’t really know how she did it, but in the end, Brenda convinced me to attend the tournament. It was interesting and I didn’t find it violent at all. By the way, Royce won.

I was a little reluctant to go, mostly because of the training I saw at Golden Sport. They seemed violent, with all those kicks and punches in the bag, but I learned later that he was also an expert in Jeet Kune Do, a martial art developed by Bruce Lee, which is very useful for self-defense. All this encouraged me to sign up for his classes.

You might not believe it, but that was really my motivation, not his body, or his physical abilities that had all his students impressed and swooning. More than once, I had felt myself being followed when I was going back home from work at late hours. I don’t use the car most of the time, I hate having to find a place to park my car in this city; it wastes my time and gets me in a bad mood.

    The first day I
