Clara Peeters was untypical for her epoch in being a female artist and is the first important woman visual artist of the Dutch Golden Age. The majority feminine Dutch artists as well concentrated in still-life painting, which did not need an understanding of human body structure.
She pictured regularly themes with foodstuff and was famous amongst the painters who formed the conventions of the Dutch art of "lunch still-life" with pure foodstuff and uncomplicated tables, and so-called "feast paintings" with luxurious mugs and utensils from expensive metals. She was born probably from Antwerp. Her first identified work is from 1607 but the technical precision and superiority of composition signify the skillfulness of an extremely educated painter everything seems to have been prepared in Antwerp, a town where painters worried about details and cautious finishing in an artwork.
Clara Peeters is not established as a name in Saint Lukas Guild's registers anywhere in the Netherlands. Clara’s father probably was a painter, but her name is not incorporated in the list of apprentices too.
Her paintings strongly are similar to works of prominent artist Osias Beert and presume a connection linking the two painters. Clara Peeters has as well been connected to Antwerp painters Jan Bruegel and Hans van Essen as her potential teachers.
She undoubtedly signed and dated 31 paintings and 18 of these works were created by the moment Clara was about 20 years old. As well, additionally 76 artworks are hypothesized to be in her heritage of paintings.
