About the Author
An Aspie’s Love: Two Shades of Black and White
There was an autistic man that was now in his 30’s named Tom. Tom was a very awkward man and he was a verbal person, but he only spoke of his interest.
Tom had a hard time connecting with others because all he could talk about was his special interest.
As a child Tom was interested in things like normal boys. He liked cars, Thomas the train, and many other toy activities that his peers liked.
Once Tom hit puberty in his early 20’s he began to form a special interest in women and he would never look back.
A very late bloomer, after puberty Tom started trying to interact with women in ways that other men did. When things didn’t go the way, Tom liked or thought they should with women he became very frustrated, sad, and depressed.
Tom did not know what to make of the idea that he could not get a girlfriend. Tom tried talking to girls just as any other guy would, but he could not get them to give him the time of day.
The harder Tom tried the more difficult things became and girls started telling all their friends about how he had approached them in weird ways.
Tom was developing a reputation due to his social awkwardness and the way in which he approached women. All women could tell Tom was that he was creepy in his approach, but no one could explain to Tom exactly what that meant.
This sent Tom on a long mission to find out what creepy meant. He wanted to understand what it meant to be creepy, so he could understand what women were feeling when he was approaching them.
Once a very verbal person Tom begun to lose language or, so it seemed. It was the intense perseveration in women and his intense special interest that only allowed Tom to talk about women.
After years of trying to get a date Tom decided to enlist the help of a counselor to help him understand why he could not get a woman to agree to go out with him.
This was the beginning of Tom’s journey with Asperger Syndrome or what we know today as high-functioning autism.
Tom asked the counselor why he could not get a girlfriend. He explained to his counselor that women told him he was creepy in his approach and he didn’t understand why.
The counselor proceeded to ask Tom many questions to try and determine what was going on.
After some investigating, we learned that Tom was very good at talking about his interest and what he
