Prologue
The lord God made all sorts of trees to grow up from the ground- trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:9 (NLT version)
Every morning she’d run to the window to see if another flower blossomed. It was the highlight of her day. She would make it a part of her routine to go outside, say some kind words into this flower, and then wait for it to respond through blooming another branch. Day after day she would speak life into this mystery bloom and relish in the fact that she could watch it blossom into something beautiful.

The Story
The Foundation:
It was a rainy day in March and Sash was digging holes into a patch of soil right outside her house. The dirt seemed stubborn and of low quality. She found herself digging for hours only to be stuck with a hole not quite adequate for her to plant her shrubs. With every scoop she was either met with rubbish, or root from the enormous tree in front her house. She thought, "If I could just get a good enough size hole, I could drop the plant in and pray it catches".
Sash was so determined to create her mini garden that every time her fork went down into the ground and got stuck, she’d visualize the garden as a representation of change in her life, and this would give her strength. Somehow, Sash felt that by getting this done and keeping the garden alive, it would represent success.
After two days of effort, Sash finally got the ten mini shrubs into the ground. She felt exhausted but accomplished. Once this task had been completed, Sash then said a quick prayer for her new garden.
Lord, please don’t let them die.
Gardening had never been Sash’s thing. In the past every time she tried to plant something, it would never last longer than three months. After a decade of walking past cat poop and dried up grass, she finally told herself that she would work on her garden. Sash then decided to get green shrubs that wouldn’t need much maintenance and yet last all year round. She figured if she planted shrubs that were meant to make it through the winter, it would be nearly impossible for her to kill them.
Each day Sash would excitedly come home and water her new garden, expecting to see growth by mid-May. Around May, Sash begun to lose faith. They don’t seem to be getting too much bigger like the landscaper explained they would when I purchased them
, Sash disappointedly thought to herself. Sash could feel the frustration taking over her soul as she watered these shrubs day after day, but nothing continued to happen.
Sash began to tell herself that the root probably didn’t catch because of the soil, and that she hadn’t made the hole deep enough with all
