About this ebook

I have pondered on this question constantly and as I see the perplexities surrounding the life of most Christians, it makes me wonder if the triumph we claim to really have in Christ Jesus isn't laughable.

I have been a Christian for so many years and in all those years, it has surprised me to see that too many believers live in bondage and defeat in so many areas of their lives far more than they live in freedom and continuous victory.

But glory to God! There really is authority available to us in Christ Jesus, to stand as His representatives and enforce His purpose on earth. He wants us to establish the will of the Father on the earth as it is done in heaven, even as we walk in the authority He has given to us.

This book is an expose on this crucial matter. You will discover, without doubt, the authority we have through Christ as children of God and will understand how to walk in that authority over your life, over your family, over your health, over the devil, and over all that concerns you, to the glory of God.

    Introduction:

    General Concept of Authority

Do we have authority in Christ Jesus as believers, that puts us over the devil, death, and diseases, as we saw Jesus manifest in scriptures? I have pondered on this question constantly and as I see the perplexities surrounding the life of most Christians, it makes me wonder if the triumph we claim to really have in Christ Jesus isn’t laughable.

I mean, I have been a Christian for so many years and in all those years, it has surprised me to see that too many believers actually live in bondage and defeat in so many areas of their lives far more than they live in freedom and continuous victory. They live in the fear of the devil and his demonic spirits far more than they live in the fear of the Lord. It seems the bulk of Christians would cower at the manifestations of a demoniac than they would at the sight of what may have been revealed to us in the Word about authority.

What is sad is that, some local movies do not make it easy for most believers at all. Most movies depict the power of satan towering over the powers of heaven. I would watch local movies where a man is taken to a church to be prayed for by a pastor and the evil spirit in the man would be too formidable to be cast out. The sick man would not be healed until he is taken to some herbalist.

This fills most unbelievers with fear. And sadly so, the same fear seem to be affecting a rather colossal degree of so-called believers. This got me asking if there isn’t authority available to us in Christ Jesus; authority that we can and should always exercise over all circumstances, situations, and matters; including the devil. And if this authority existed, then it begs the question why believers are not walking in this authority; in their marriages, over their homes, over their minds, their lives, their finances, their spiritual lives, etc.

Someone rightly said if education is costly, try ignorance. Perhaps, ignorance is costing us too much in the body of Christ. God Himself said in the book of Hosea 4:6 (which almost 86% of believers can quote and yet do not pay real attention to): My people perish because they lack knowledge.

If there is authority available to us in Christ Jesus, if the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for us brings us into the very life of the Father as He declared in John 17:3, then it is certain that we, now sharing the same life of the Father, have authority in Him. As a creature shares the same nature of its kind, a child of God must equally share the same nature of the Father, since now in Christ Jesus he has eternal life – the very life of God.

We have authority over all things, just as Psalm 8:4-8 declares:

What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen—Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.

Did you see that? God has made man a little lower than angels. Bible scholars believe the original Greek translation of that sentence says: You have made Him a little lower than God. This is a big revelation, and it corroborates the fact for me that there is authority vested in us, meant to be working for us, by God, to carry out His mandate here on earth.

Jesus is in heaven. We are His representatives here on earth – His body – and as such, because our battle isn’t against physical enemies, we must be equipped with the weapon we need to win this battle. This is one of the reasons why Christ delegates His authority to us.

We have this authority, since we belong to Christ Jesus, Who is the Head over all things (Col. 2:10). We have this authority. Hallelujah! We only have to understand it and walk in it.

In my few years being a Christian and ministering to people, I have seen this authority in operation. I have seen devils cower at the mention of the name of Jesus. I have realized the efficacy of this authority over my own life. I have very much never been in doubt that this authority is available to us. The Bible says in the book of Luke 10:19,

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

This authority which we have in Christ Jesus is in no way subjugated by the powers of darkness. I believe strongly that this is so, judging from various scriptures such as John 1:6,

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and darkness did not comprehend it.

Light can never be overwhelmed by darkness. It is impossible. Unlike the false notions portrayed to us in those local movies I mentioned, the authority of God is no way subjugated under the powers of darkness, in the same way that light shines in the darkness and darkness cannot comprehend it.

If believers are light, then they oughtn’t be subjugated under the influences of the devil and his evil cohorts. And the reason is obvious: what relationship does light have with darkness, what harmony will Christ have with Satan (2 Cor. 6:18-19). We are light and light can have no fellowship with darkness. They are not in the same class. They can never share any relationship. Once light comes, darkness must go.

If therefore we have this authority, then believers ought to be walking in victory all the way, every time, over every circumstance. Unless they do not know.

It is my prayer that the Lord will by Himself open your eyes to see and understand the authority which you have in Him in the pages of this book. My greatest prayer for you as you turn into the chapters of this is found in Ephesians 1:17-18,

"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of
