#1 Reminding Us of Our Exceptionality
As a citizen of this exceptional nation, I have always noticed the goodness of the American spirit. The acts of generosity, warmth, and love from the American people are known and documented in our history. There is an uncommon attitude that permeates through the fiber of this country. What is the nature of this excellent attitude of valuing freedom and service? The exceptional quality of Americans is firmly rooted in our Judeo-Christian values.
Judeo-Christian principles are reflected all over the foundation of this country. A country founded by Christian is always searching to improve the human condition. The core of this country always strives toward perfection, towards creating a more just and fitting union. The idea of exceptional people befits this understanding.
What is exceptionalism? One day, as I listened to my favorite radio personality, Rush Limbaugh, he started to recount a completely fitting summation of exceptionalism. It was in his discussion that I found clarity of the meaning. In the words of the Professor of Democracy, Rush Limbaugh:
"The vast majority of the people of this world, since the beginning of time, have never known the kind of liberty and freedom that’s taken for granted every day in this country. Most people have lived in abject fear of their leaders.
Just surviving was the primary occupation of most people in the world. The history of the world is dictatorship, tyranny, subjugation, whatever you want to call it, of populations — and then along came the United States of America.
For the first time in human history, a government and country was founded on the belief that leaders serve the population. This country was the first in history, the EXCEPTION — e-x-c-e-p-t, except. The exception to the rule is what American exceptionalism is." (Limbaugh, 2013).
