Your Restored Life - Chioma Oparadike

    Introduction

"The word of God is the gift that keeps on giving. It is life—water to the thirsty lips and food to the hungry soul."

A few months ago, I decided to do a personal study of the book of Galatians. I do not recall why I chose Galatians but I remember that, from the very first chapter, I was hooked by the power and efficacy of Paul’s words to the churches in Galatia. I realized that I could not keep the things I was learning to myself and I decided, there and then, that I would create a daily devotional from this letter to the Galatians.

If I could describe the entire book of Galatians with a word, it would be restoration. In this book, the Apostle Paul reminded the Galatians that they had been restored to their rightful place with God, through the precious blood of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. This invariably meant that they could no longer live like before, but had to live in the knowledge of this freedom and salvation in Jesus Christ.

This is such a powerful message and one that is relevant to our generation and today’s world. We can no longer live as we used to, but need to express the fruits of a liberated life:

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then and do not let yourselves be burdened by a yoke of slavery…for in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."

    Galatians 5:1, 6

And this is our call, to live as loving and obedient children of the Most-High God.

I am truly excited to share God’s word with you in this simple and helpful daily devotional. More importantly, I pray that you are encouraged, refreshed and that the fire to serve and live for God is fully rekindled in your life.

This daily devotional will take you through all the chapters of the book of Galatians. Each day examines particular scriptures and includes prayers, words of reflection and further reading.

    Day 1

    Our God to the rescue

Scripture verse: Galatians 1: 3-5 (NIV)

"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen."

    Devotion:

You have probably seen movies and read books where the hero comes in just when all hope is lost and rescues the captives. In those moments, there is usually a sense of elation and joy signified by people laughing and crying. I would often join in, happy that good won over evil.

Now, imagine the eternal battle our Lord God won on our behalf.

He rescued us from the jaws of sin and death and sanctified us by the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. The amazing thing was that it was God’s plan to deliver us.

He willingly bore the sin and the shame for every one of us. It was always His plan to rescue mankind and the Bible is testament to this. In Isaiah 53:4-5, the Bible records that

"He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him and afflicted but he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him and by his wounds we are healed."

God did not leave us to wallow in our sin and suffering, he gave freely of himself so that we may be partakers of his eternal kingdom.

What a wonderful Father we serve.

Even in our sin, our God did not consider it wasteful to save us. Rather, He set a course in motion to liberate us but it doesn’t stop there. We were rescued so that through us, he will rescue others.

    Prayer:

Lord, thank You for delivering me from my life of sin, for saving me from the desires of my flesh and for restoring me to You. Through Your death and resurrection, I
