    Walter Desmond is back in Trafalgar, British Columbia, having been officially exonerated when new evidence showed corruption at worst, incompetence at best, by the Trafalgar City Police running the investigation. His pitbull attorney is seeking five million in damages from the provincial government. But Walt has not returned to Trafalgar to pursue money or revenge. He just wants to know the why of it.

    So, case reopened. It lands on Winters' desk. The records are moldering. One investigating officer is dead, the other is retired—and not talking. The police force are instructed to treat Walt as if he'd never been arrested or convicted. Someone else apparently killed Sophia, someone still walking free.

    But too many minds remain closed. It's good luck for Walt that a group of women in town for the dragon boat race are staying in the B&B where he's booked—women with no local prejudices. But when a townswoman and a boat woman are attacked by a rapist, the media gets active, and tempers dangerously flare.

      What an interesting book this one was! I have not read any of the others in the series but will if I find them in the future! Walt Desmond, an innocent man, has been released from prison after spending 25 years there for a murder he did not commit. He wants to know WHY people lied and did not find the real murderer SO he heads back to Trafalgar to find out. The town is divided with some thinking he is guilty and others feeling he got a raw deal. This is a story of miscarriage of justice and finding out, eventually what really happened. It is also a love story, police procedural and social commentary. Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the copy of this book to read and review.

      Walt Desmond has been in prison for twenty-five years, convicted of the sexual assault and brutal murder of Sophia D'Angelo. A recent appeal has resulted in his conviction being overturned when it's proven the Trafalgar City Police Department seemed to be setting him up. Walt decides to return to Trafalgar and look for answers on what happened and why the police targeted him. Some residents don't believe he is innocent and even the Police Department is divided into two sides of the fight. Many of the townspeople, including some cops and former cops, and the family of the victim, think he is guilty. When someone starts attacking woman in town, Walt is considered the main suspect.

      Sergeant John Winters and Constable Molly Smith realize, if Walter isn't guilty, someone else has gotten away with murder, so they open up the investigation. One of the investigating officers is dead now, either from an accident or suicide. The other lives alone and isn’t talking. The investigation also starts to reveal some discrepancies in the perception of Sophia, who might not be the quiet, obedient young woman her family and friends described.

      I've been reading this series over the past few months and it's gotten better and better. This is my favorite of the entire series. The author does a great job of making the characters realistic and relatable. The secondary characters really add dimension and personality to each book. I love the city of Trafalgar and all it's citizens. Unreasonable Doubt is a thought-provoking, powerful mystery and I can't wait for another to be published.
