About this ebook

With only the light of their love, Simon and Lila attempt to conquer darkness and death.

A jaded grim reaper…

Unlike the other reapers, Simon plans to fight his addiction to the euphoria he receives during the separation of a human's soul from its body. Denying himself the rush may have disastrous consequences, yet if he gives into the temptation, he will lose the woman he's come to love more than the earth-shattering high of reaping.

A suicidal woman…

Lila's desire to end her life makes her vulnerable to reapers seeking a fix. Simon provides a diversion from her dark thoughts and ignites her will to live, but even true love might not be enough to break the iron-clad contract that comes with his grim occupation.

Dedication: For those who struggle with depression and dark thoughts. The demons in our heads are liars and tricksters. Don’t let them win. 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

Little remained of the man inside the monster. All the reaper’s memories of his past life had faded, except for the two fragile recollections. He clung to the memories of the dark-haired girl with the shy smile, and of his own death day. On Black Tuesday, the day the stock market crashed, he’d stepped off the roof of a building and plunged to the pavement.

Lord Death had appeared beside his broken body and recruited him as a reaper, infusing his kiss with the power to release a human’s spirit for the journey to the Underworld. The kiss rewarded the reaper with a high more powerful than every intoxicating substance found on Earth combined. A high every reaper craved. A high which quickly became a shackle.

The reaper had come to worship the exquisite sensation more than he did his master, Lord Death.

The reaper found his latest victim, Benji Forrester, in bed in room 120B, in the psychiatric wing of Skylar Sanatorium. He laced his fingers through the boy’s spikey red hair and forced Benji’s head close. His need rose to a wave that threatened to crush both him and the boy. A sound, like the rumble of a cat’s purr, bubbled out of the reaper’s throat only to be muffled against the young man’s lips.

The boy fought the separation of soul from body, but the thrashing human was no match for the reaper’s strong will and preternatural power. With a vicious rip, the boy’s life force came free. He convulsed and slumped in the reaper’s arms.

Energy streamed into the reaper, pulsing pleasure in time with the boy’s fading heartbeats. The insides of the reaper’s eyelids lit up in a psychedelic symphony of colors. A personal fireworks
