    Tasha walked into the assembly hall, ignoring the glares of the shorter girls. She knew what she looked like. She’d tried glamour to fit in—to be shorter, rounder, mortal. It didn’t work. All the iron in the school sapped her energy and with it, her magic. It was easier to just be what she was with only a hint of glamour to hide her truly otherworldly looks. Which meant the other girls at school refused to befriend her. Who wanted to be friends with a leggy supermodel type? Definitely not the physically insecure teen girls around her. And she didn’t blame them. Had her mother given her a true choice, she wouldn’t have been there either.

    She found an open seat close to the side, but at the front of the hall. No place to hide. Keeping her face impassive, she sat down among the humans involved in their own melodrama. She would’ve preferred to be among her own, but... Tasha chewed her cheek to keep her emotions in check. There was good reason for her to be hidden in the mortal realm. The sooner she accepted her fate, the sooner she could make the best of it.

    Cinnamon, cloves and something distinctly Seth made her breathe deeply. The boy in question squeezed past a couple of people, smiled at her, and sat down with his friends. Most of them were together in a band. They were good – good enough to have regular gigs and earn some cash. But if they wanted to make it big, they’d need a leannan sìth.
