Your comfort zone is your enemy
This principle has changed my life forever. I am naturally an introverted and shy person and my comfort zone was a small circle of friends and things that I was good at. When I realized that my comfort zone is not serving me, I wanted to change. And that change was the hardest change that I have ever made. Expanding my comfort zone was so uncomfortable, frightening, scary and very challenging.
My problem was shyness. I used to be very shy in elementary school. My biggest fear was talking to strangers, but even more, talking to beautiful girls. I know it sounds stupid, but it is true. I could never sum up the courage and talk to the girl that I fancied and liked. Some of my friends from school had no problem with that and I was always asking myself: How do they do it?
And I couldn't understand for a long time. Then I realized, it all comes down to one simple word. And that word is confidence.
What is confidence? Confidence is in my opinion, a state of mind which allows you to achieve your goals, it is certainty in your ability to do something. Fear, on the other hand, is preventing you from achieving those same goals. And after I realized that, I started learning how to be more confident around girls and overall in life. It was a very long journey and I am still on it, because confidence, like everything else in life, is a journey, not a destination. I still feel awkward talking to girls, but I am able to shut down that little voice in my head that says: You are an awkward, weird and boring dude.
That little voice will never leave me, but I have learned how to use that voice as a fuel. Really think about it. If you had had no fears, how would you have moved forward in life? If you had had no reason to improve your life, why would you have wanted to improve it?
That is why I love my fear, it is a driving force that pushes me outside of my comfort zone. You can either accept it or complain about it. The problem is, most people complain about it and then they ask themselves: Why am I not getting the results that I want?
The answer is simple. They are doing the same thing over and over again not even realizing it. As Einstein once said: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
