I was born in a library and raised on literature. From a young age I wrote my own stories and read them to anyone who would listen. After years of hard work and determination, I'm finally dabbling in the world of Indie Publishing and I love it! My favourite genre is fantasy, but I'll give anything a shot.

Chapter One
When Bess Hooper first met Holland Meganty she liked her instantly. A little different than her cousin Eloise, instead of loitering on the glittering side of fashion, she leaned towards a slightly darker alternative. Holland was quiet and only spoke when she had something interesting to say. Most of the time she just listened and nodded, that’s why Bess liked her so much. One Eloise Wescott was enough for anyone.
The fried food of the school cafeteria filled the air with an aroma that was both delicious and stomach-turning at the same time. Staring at the limited selection available in the bain marie, Bess decided on a plate of chips, along with some juice. There wasn’t much else to choose from and she had been kept back for a boring lecture on paying attention in class and an overdue assignment which she had promised to finish by the end of the week. Now a large part of her lunch break had gone and so had most of the food on offer.
Approaching a crowded table, she took a seat with her friends and the recently arrived Holland. As always, Eloise led the conversation which focussed on boys, clothes, and herself. Surrounded by the chatter of other students, the girls, who normally spent most of their lunchtime at an outside table, were trapped by the rain and Bess watched as the drops hit the windows and ran down the glass in streams. Smothering her food with ketchup, she took a sip of the juice and joined the conversation.
Where did you say you are from again?
Mia asked the quiet Holland.
Cornwall,
she replied and sipped water from a bottle through a plastic straw. Chewing on the end of it, she stared down at the table in an effort to avoid eye contact with any of the group. They had nothing in common and she didn’t know how to talk to them.
So why are you staying with Eloise? I don’t understand,
Olivia said. She opened up a packet of crisps and dived in hand first. Are you moving here or something?
Holly is staying with us for a while because of personal reasons,
Eloise interrupted and shot her cousin a look that she had recently developed. Bess referred to it silently as the death look and it was the sort that would scare a wolverine. She doesn’t have to tell you why Olivia. Some people like to keep their personal lives to themselves.
I thought your name was Holland,
Mia said ignoring Eloise on purpose.
It is,
Holland said. But Eloise has always called me Holly. She’s the only one though.
Once again she sat in silence as if she wasn’t really interested in carrying on the conversation, making the other girls feel uneasy.
I think it’s a brilliant name,
Olivia said finally trying to move the conversation along. It’s like you’re named after a country that’s famous for cheese and tulips.
And weed,
Bess interrupted. Don’t forget the coffee shops in Amsterdam.
Remembering Dylan Mason and his past problems, she purposely avoided looking at Mia and concentrated on eating her lunch.
Cheese is cool,
Mia said as if she hadn’t heard the comment. I like the sound of the word. Cheese, it sounds like it tastes, yum. Cheeeeeese. Holland has great big ball cheese. I feel like cheese now.
The others laughed, all except Holland who just smiled and wished she was somewhere else. She had her own circle of friends her interfering mother was trying to destroy, but it wouldn’t work. All the time in the world wouldn’t make her forget who she really was. As soon as she returned home, life would pick up where it left off and nothing would have changed. This was just a time-wasting exercise that her parents hadn’t thought through properly.
So since you’re here, you’re invited to come over on Saturday afternoon. It’s my birthday and I’m having a small get together. It’s very exclusive,
Mia explained to Holland. Here are your invitations,
she said handing them out to the girls one by one.
Holland stared at the fancy card. Small sprigs of what looked like lavender decorated the corners of the light green invitation and the writing was in purple. It looked as though they had been printed by a professional. Turning it over, there was nothing on the back and she put it back in the envelope and slipped it into the pocket of her blazer.
Afternoon tea,
Olivia scoffed. What the hell is this all about?
Exactly as it reads. I’m inviting you all for afternoon tea and it’s semi-formal. So dresses and hats and nice accessories,
Mia explained to them all. We’re having dainty finger food, like cucumber sandwiches, and scones with jam and clotted cream. I think it’s going to be fun.
So, no jeans,
Olivia said.
Definitely not,
Mia exclaimed, and no crisps or chips with ketchup!
What’s wrong with this?
Bess asked referring to her food.
Don’t even get me started,
Eloise said staring at what looked to her like a bloody mess. Look at the grease on the plate, it’s mixing in with the ketchup.
Yawning, she put her hand over her mouth and blinked a few times.
Why are you so tired?
Bess asked. You’re getting dark circles under your eyes. Have you two been pulling all-nighters?
Referring to Holland, she tried to include her, but the other girl looked down at the table. Her long light brown hair fell like a wavy curtain secluding her face from the others and it was clear that she had no intentions of joining in the conversation.
No,
Eloise said instantly. I just haven’t been sleeping very well lately, that’s all.
Well, I have nothing to wear to your tea party,
Olivia told Mia as she took a chip from Bess’s plate. So I won’t be able to attend.
You can borrow something of mine. If you don’t eat too many of those,
Eloise offered, referring to the plate of chips. But not my plastic tiara, I’m wearing that.
Bess just looked at her in disbelief. She didn’t know whether or not Eloise was joking about the tiara. They hadn’t played dress-ups in years, so she wasn’t sure if the tiara even existed.
Alright, I’m not wearing a hat though,
Olivia told them. "That’s just stupid. Hats are for
