    Anuradha was born in 1947 in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Her grandfather R. Balasubramaniam was an actor who inspired Anuradha to become a writer. Anuradha started her career as an artist before making several unsuccessful attempts to get a job with popular magazines. This prompted her to join Mangai, a Tamil magazine after the editor found her writings very interesting. Anuradha's literary career started in 1977 while working for the magazine.

    Apart from her literary contributions, she was well known for her "anti-divorce counselling" work. In a career that spanned over 30 years, Anuradha wrote nearly 800 novels and 1,230 short stories. Her works were mainly centered on family and everyday happenings. One of her early works Sirai, won a gold medal for the best short story from Ananda Vikatan. It was adapted into a film of the same name. Following this, her other novels Kootu Puzhukkal, Oru Malarin Payanam and Oru Veedu Iruvasal were adapted into films in various languages such as Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Oru Veedu Iru Vasal, directed by Balachander won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues in 1991. The 1988 Telugu film Oka Baarya Katha based on her work won five Nandi Awards. In addition to films, many of her stories such as Archanai Pookal, Paasam and Kanakanden Thozhi have been adapted into Television serials. She was awarded a gold medal by M. G. Ramachandran, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

      பேசாமக் கல்யாணம் பண்ணிக்கோ...

      ஏண்டா... பி.எஸ்.ஸி ரெண்டாம் வருஷப் படிப்பையே இன்னும் நான் முடிக்கல்லே... சாப்பாட்டுக்காகவும், தங்கச்சிய கவனிச்சுக்கறதுக்காகவும் இப்பவே என்னை சம்சாரத்துல முழுகச் சொல்றியா... உங்களுக்கெல்லாம் விளையாட்டாப் போச்சுப்பா...

      பின்னே என்னடா... தினமும் ஒரு நாளைப் போல சோத்துப் பிரச்சினையே பெரிய பிரச்னையாப் போச்சு. உனக்கு... ஹோட்டல்லேயோ, கேன்டீன்லேயோ மொக்கிக்கடான்னு சொன்னா, ‘ஐயோ, தங்கச்சி மோர் சோத்தைத் தின்னுட்டு ஸ்கூலுக்கு போறாளே...' ‘பிரியாணியின்னா தம்பிக்கு பிடிக்குமே' இப்படி ஒரு பாட்டம் அழறே... நீயெல்லாம் உருப்படவே மாட்டேடா...

      பாண்டியனுக்கும் அப்படித்தான் தோன்றுகிறது.

      ‘நிஜமாவே, நாம உருப்படாமத்தான் போகப்போறோமா...'

      'அம்மா... என் சமத்து அம்மா... செல்ல அம்மா... உனக்கு அதுக்குள்ள இந்த உலக ஆசை அத்துப் போயிடுச்சா...'

      'நல்லாத்தானேம்மா இருந்தே நீ? வீட்டுக்குள்ளே ஒரு ஈ எறும்பு நுழைய விடமாட்டியே... எமன், நுழைய எப்படி சம்மதிச்சே?'

      அவன் தனக்குள் அமிழ்ந்து போக அவனுக்கு கொஞ்சம் கூட சிரமமே வைக்காமல், மனசுக்குள் அம்மா தகதகக்கும் மஞ்சள் பூச்சும், அரக்கு கலர் பட்டுப் புடவையுமாய் வந்து நிற்கிறாள்.

      அம்மா அவ்வளவு சீக்கிரத்தில் செத்துப் போவாள் என்று யாருமே நினைக்கவில்லை... அப்பா பரசுராம் கூட, அவளை ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் சேர்ந்த அன்று சர்வசாதாரணமாய்தான் சொன்னார்.

      என்ன... எல்லாப் பொம்பளைங்களுக்கும் நாப்பது வயசுல வர்ற வியாதிதான். உதிரம் போகுது... உடம்பானா - ஊதிட்டே போகுது... கர்ப்பப் பையில் கட்டி இருக்குமோனு சந்தேகப்பட்டார் டாக்டர்... நமக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு மாசமும் ஏதாவது ஒரு செலவு வேணுமில்லே...

      அம்மாவை கவனித்துக் கொள்ளவும், சமைத்துப் போடவும் வந்த அத்தையிடம் அப்பா சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருந்ததை பாண்டியனும் கேட்டுக் கொண்டுதான் இருந்தான்.

      அவனுக்கு அப்பாவின் சுபாவம் நன்கு தெரியும்.

      பெண்டாட்டி, குழந்தைகளிடம் நிறைய பாசம் வைத்திருப்பவர் தான் அப்பா. ஆனாலும் அதை வெளிக்காட்டிக் கொள்ளத் தெரியாது.

      ஒரு வேளை - பணப்பிரச்னை, பாசத்துக்குக் குறுக்காக நிற்கிறதோ என்னவோ.

      சரசு - அவள்தான் பாண்டியனின் தாய். உயிரோடு இருந்த வரையில் - கணவனையோ குழந்தைகளையோ ஒரு காரியம் செய்ய அனுமதித்ததில்லை...

      எல்லாவற்றையும் அவளே பார்த்து செய்தால்தான் நிம்மதி. இத்தனைக்கும் பரசுவுக்கு ஒன்றும் மென்னியைப் பிடிக்கிற வேலையில்லை...

      வக்கீல் குமாஸ்தா...

      காலையில் பத்து மணிக்குப் போனால் - மாலை ஐந்து மணிக்கு வீட்டுக்கு வருவார்.

      சரசு, காப்பியுடன் பஜ்ஜியோ - பக்கவடாமோ - அவருக்கு பிடித்த அயிட்டத்தை செய்து வைத்திருப்பாள்...

      சாப்பிட்டு விட்டு ஒரு வெற்றிலைப் பாக்கைப் போட்டுக் கொண்டு, மறுபடியும் தன் வக்கீல் வீட்டுக்குப் போனால் எட்டரை மணிக்குத் திரும்பி விடுவார்.

      பஸ்ஸுக்கு ஓட வேண்டும் என்கிற அலமலைப்பு இல்லை எல்லாமே வெகு நிதானம்...

      பக்கத்துத் தெருவில்தான் வக்கீல் வீடு... என்னதான் பொடி நடையாக நடந்தாலும் - பத்து நிமிஷத்தில் போய் சேர்ந்து விடலாம்.

      இரவு எட்டரை - ஒன்பது மணிக்கு அவர் வீடு திரும்பும் போது அனேகமாய் பாண்டியனும் அம்மாவும் தான் விழித்திருப்பார்கள்.

      பாண்டியன் கூடத்து ஊஞ்சலில் மல்லாந்துப் படுத்தபடி - புத்தகத்தைப் புரட்டிக் கொண்டிருப்பான்.

      பரசுராம் - உள்ளே நுழையும் போதே - மகனை செல்லமாய் அதட்டிக்
