About this ebook

I'm as innocent as a newborn baby. I swear. I didn't kill those men.

They threw me in a mental hospital to cover up the real killer's crimes. I have no idea why, but I have theories.

Let me tell you my story so you can decide if I'm guilty or innocent.

Author

Jo Michaels

Jo Michaels loves writing novels that make readers gasp in horror, surprise, and disbelief. While her browser search history has probably landed her on a list somewhere, she still dives into every plot with gusto, hoping "the man" will realize she's a writer and not a psychopath about to go on a rampage. Her favorite pastimes are reading, watching Investigation Discovery, and helping other authors realize their true potential through mentoring. She's penned the award-winning Pen Pals and Serial Killers series and the best-selling educational book for children, Writing Prompts for Kids, which has rocketed the kids that use it into several awards of their own. Most of Jo's books feature the places she's lived: Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia. That's given her a special amount of insight to what makes those locations tick. Her works are immersive and twisty, and she wouldn't want it any other way.

These fucking restraints itch like hell.

All I can smell is disinfectant, and it’s pissing me off.

I shouldn’t even be in here. I did not kill those people.

Lucky me, no one believes my story. Or should that be un-lucky me…?

I bet you don’t even believe me. Right? Are you just another judgmental asshole assuming you can tell fact from fiction? Yeah, my story sounds crazy, even I know that, but why the hell would I bother offing someone I don’t even know? Much less three people.

If I wanted to cut a throat, I know several deserving fools, but none of the victims were those men—or women.

Muffled screams and scuffling sounds have been floating through the door since those dickhead, Schwarzenegger-looking orderlies (I mean, seriously, who looks like that?) strapped me into this fucking thing, tossed me in that windowless van, brought me here, and left me. True crazies are on the other side of that bolted-closed hunk of metal, I’m sure, so I’m not super eager to leave my room—unless it’s to go home to my kids.

I do wish they’d let me move my arms though. My hands are going numb.

I’m glad I’m in a safe place—somewhere that psycho can’t get to me.

What psycho, you ask? Well, I’m happy to enlighten you!

Strap yourself in, get comfortable, and I’ll tell you my story. We have plenty of time, I’m sure. If you believe I’m innocent afterward, I’ll give you a cookie. Hell, if you’re convinced I am, I might give you two.

It started last night, around eight. All five kids finally went to bed (seriously, it’s like herding cats) and were settled in for the evening, and I had my usual cup of coffee, drinking it while I spied on the people living in the apartment building across the way.

No, I didn’t have binoculars; I was just looking.

Every now and then, I catch sight of something kinky going on, and I wonder if anyone knows they have blinds on their picture windows because the damned things are meant to be closed when they’re doing naughty things.

(That one time with the rather large, hairy guy… Well, I won’t embed that picture in your mind. Just know it wasn’t something I ever want to see again.

Now you know—I’m a total peeping Tom, but that doesn’t make me a killer, right?

    Right.)

I was grazing the windows, looking for something juicy to sink my teeth into, when I saw a man
