    Scarlett grew up knowing what she had. Like many a late teens girl, some seem to know that they have exactly what it takes to make men, and not a few women, fall at their feet in desperate hope.

    But her mother raised a good girl, telling her things she needed to know to survive this world. The most important was simply, “Never let them kiss you. Never let them love you. It will end in disaster.”

    Okay, we all know mothers are overprotective. ‘Never’ is an awfully strong word, and girls are designed, as are young men, to stretch every fiber of the strings that hold them in place as they mature.

    Mama’s brightly redheaded girl, aptly named, and that with an old family one, kept herself aloof, though God knew it was hard. Well, harder on some. You know.

    The problem was that she might be different, at least in potential, but she was perfectly normal in hormones and interest. Coming out of home schooling, avoiding the public temptations, going on to the college environment was way different. While Scarlett stayed grounded, minding her mother, she ached to fly.
    Yes, college life was difficult, and Scarlett almost completely avoided alcohol and drugs, those things that make both sexes less cautious... and often stupid. Carrying that target imagined on every female freshman’s bottom, she managed to waltz through the first year at the University of Georgia in Atlanta unscathed, then the second, and for some reason, people believed she might be an Ice Queen. Delightful to look at, impossible to hold.
