About this ebook

What does a person do when they keep getting dumped? Ryan thinks he is the problem, and vows never to let it happen again. He can use the 3D world as his haven for all kinds of contact, even intimate, and never worry again about personal relationships.

Her parent's divorce made Corinne vow not to repeat their mistakes– relationships are not just about sex. But she is too fearful of relationships to even get seriously involved. Her best friend Beth is on a mission to change her fearfulness. Beth is a madcap social coordinator who takes Beth on "conquer your fear" outings.
Corinne is secretly in love with Ryan. She gets him a partnership with Beth's new company developing a 3D sensual world. Her experience with 3D avatars and fashion design get her working alongside Ryan. As these two confront each other, and conquering their fears, the situations are hilarious.

The developing 3D world is open to hackers who destroy and create problems, and one sexy avatar, Natasha, who entices Ryan. Ryan finds he is in love with Natasha in the 3D virtual world, and Corinne in the real world, then finds the 3D "sensuous" environment is not satisfying. Corinne has conquered her fears, and confronts Ryan so that he makes his choice for her.

    Chapter 1

To the casual observer, Ryan was the luckiest man in the world. Ryan had no doubt he had it made. The sports car they were in was his, and he let Paula drive to make her happy. He leaned across the seat and gave the sleek blond with long legs a kiss on the cheek as they pulled up to BizWorld Services, where he worked. He knew people inside would be watching.

He had a great job as team leader developing really fun virtual reality software. Life just put wonderful all over him.

Corinne, a petite woman, her dark hair pulled back, was dressed in jeans and a loose sweatshirt, no makeup, which was the usual mode of dress for a software company. She made fashion clothes for virtual reality figures, but her home wardrobe lacked anything comparable.

She stared out her cubicle window at Ryan's arrival. She and Chas watched every day. She couldn't help herself. Chas entered her cubicle and stared out the window with her. She watched Ryan. He watched Paula. Neither of them ever said anything, but both knew what was going on. Neither felt like they had a chance.

Ryan gave Paula a kiss on the lips then exited the car. He couldn't take his eyes off Paula, so lacking the usual visual orientation of the sidewalk, he backed into a street sign. Chas chuckled. Ryan fell over into the street gutter, throwing his laptop case skidding down the sidewalk. In the gutter he was wedged between the curb and the car. Paula got out to help him.

Chas laughed at Ryan while Corinne's heart went out to him. The laugh got Jake's attention. He looked out and laughed as Paula helped Ryan get out of the gutter. Ryan had trash all over him, and some sticky gum didn't brush off. A used prophylactic was stuck to the back of his leg.

Jake said proudly, That's my gum.

Chas, whose focus was fixated on Paula's legs, said, I want that.

Corinne was accustomed to the banter and sexual comments, although she didn't appreciate them and endlessly tried to deflect them. They never changed.

She's not a that. That bimbo's a woman and she's just using Ryan for what she can get.

Jake said, I’d settle for a blow-up doll of her …. Or even an avatar that moves. Can you make one like her, Corinne?

Corinne reproachfully jerked away from them, saying, You’re all disgusting perverts. I should report you to Human Relations.

Jake smiled wryly, knowing that she wouldn't report them. She would have to report half the men working there. And then she would have no one to associate with, and no one to have a drink after work with.

Ryan entered the building as Paula drove away. Embarrassed, he walked down the aisle between cubicles. Monitors displayed computer code and 3D world settings with life-like avatars doing various motions, and programmers worked to create the buildings or animate the avatars. El Destructo, a giant virtual robot, smashed buildings and avatars that programmers didn’t like.

Most programmers were dressed in cut-off jeans, pullover shirts, and very casual shoes. Jules, Jim and the others, were intensely occupied with their computers.

Ryan headed toward the office, the door under the BizWorld Services logo, which was prominently displayed on the wall. He passed Jake’s cubicle and stopped in to see how he was doing. Jake was playing an online computer game and had headphones over his ears. Ryan tapped him on the shoulder. Jake removed his earphones and switched his computer back to programming code.

Time to start work? Jake asked.

Got those new software driver modifications completed yet?

Software drivers aren’t golf clubs, you know—you charlatans change your code every day, like you have some idea what you’re doing. 'I want to do this. I want it to do that. Take that back out, we changed our minds.' Where is your master plan?

They had this same exchange every day. Ryan replied with mock seriousness, You are our master plan. You were born for this moment.

Jake put his headphones back on and turned back to his monitor. He grumbled, Ask me tomorrow. Late tomorrow. I been here all night already!

Ryan pulled Jake’s headphone away on one side. Since four am? Ryan smiled and as he left the cubicle, Jake gave him the finger, glanced back to make sure he was gone, then switched his monitor back to an online computer game. As he glanced back, Jake saw the prophylactic stuck to Ryan’s jeans as he walked away, and laughed to himself.

Ryan continued down the row, going into Chas’s cubicle. Chas was creating a virtual building.

Nice building. Got an architectural plan?

Chas gave his customary reply. "It isn’t about architecture, it’s about
